I disagree. The simple fact that a business benefits off another's hard work does not nessecary deprive the worker of their income. Economics is not zero-sum. Google News drives traffic to news sites that would otherwise be isolated to

LOL. Spanish news is irrelevant now. Google will just show Spanish users broader Euro news they can continue to serve freely. Spanish newspapers just accelerated their demise. You are so arrogant. "Google News needs to be stopped"

I can't tell whether I should agree with you, because I rationally have similar conclusions, or disagree because it's possible you are simply a planted post meant to derail discussion. Mission accomplished either way, I guess.

As a general rule I don't participate in HN arguments, which is why I didn't reply to GPH. There is nothing I could have really added to the discussion and it would have simply devolved into a shouting match over which economic pe

Called it, 2.5 months ago. Most of HN said I was wrong. If the 1.25B tax break causes a net gain in tax receipts due to the expansion of the economy, then the deal is a net positive for everyone, job-seekers, Nevada, and Tesla. No one lose

If Comcast charged the same rates as AWS, I probably wouldn't mind. But Comcast charges ~1000x more per GB. In addition, with AWS I can always switch to a cheaper provider. I can not switch to a cheaper cable company.

That is a hard question to answer, because my answer is biased (I live now, so I am biased to think now/recent-past is the best climate). But I do think the 19th/20th century was the most ideal climate possible for the human race.

Your hypothetical is a good one, and I would answer: yes we should still try to reverse it. Rising seas threaten coastal areas over all the globe. Changes in rainfall patterns will create new deserts (see the current California drought). A

It's unfortunate that consumers of the netflix API will have to resort to this sort of web-scraping solution. Web scraping is more complicated than using a provided API, and more computationally expensive for both the servers and clien

Normally these discussions get framed in terms of "rights" and how the FBI are violating them, but the average person doesn't care a lot about their abstract rights. It doesn't register. The real issue, and what bothers

I disagree about the Kindle Fire, it is still the go-to cheap tablet device for non-techies (which is most of the consumer market). The high end tablet market is dominated by Apple. Everything else is a rounding error.

I use a Lenevo W530 at work. It's great, it has a mobile i7 quad core processor, discrete graphics card with 2GB VRAM, 16GB DDR3, etc. It's a very powerful machine, and does not weigh much.

I drink (diet) soda because I need caffeine in the mornings. I am not a morning person and never have been. Without caffeine, I will not be mentally alert before 11am. I hate the taste of coffee, so soda it is.

The big picture is that NASA has created competition in the commercial space market. If either of the parties fail to live up to their obligations, NASA has a backup. If both succeed, all the better for NASA. Competition is good.
