It's not about "solving" the problem. It's about taking away something people enjoy that you happen to not care about. If we take this to its logical conclusion then everything you do for enjoyment will also call under t

Here's how considering trade-offs went for the people in the article: " I don't like cruises . Cruises also cause harm. Let's ban cruises." They're okay with banning cruises because they don't like them. W

We should make partying illegal. Alcohol, smoking, drugs, overeating, loud music etc. All of these are bad for you and providing the goods hurts the environment. Stop partying. You're destroying the planet when you do. Nobody needs t

To add: C# is a language that is easy to pick up. If you've written Java then you could basically just start writing C#. Probably even a C or C++ background would allow you to do that. Maybe even knowing js is enough.

I was surprised that Unreal Engine didn't just translate Blueprint directly into C++ code. They already have a text-based version of Blueprint. You can see it when you copy a blueprint graph and paste it into a text file (or at least y

How do you lose that much money? How does Unity Technologies employ 7700 people?! For comparison: Epic Games employs about 3700 people. That includes the people working on Fortnite and the Epic Games store. Edit: the stats might be a bit qu

Nature would eventually take care of it, but that would take centuries. On top of that, it's unlikely that we will be able to cut all GHG emissions. Having some amount of carbon capture seems important.

Net negative carbon emissions requires money. Somebody will have to pay a lot of money to capture and sequester that carbon. Their plan is to have the oil pay for it, but eventually it will have to be us. Their solution doesn't solve

Whether it's unreasonable or not, I don't think we have much of a choice. Obviously the goal is to move as much stuff off of GHG emissions, but we've done a lot of damage to the atmosphere. If you look at a CO2 graph in the a

Life isn't exactly neutral to the environment. CO2 levels were down to 260 ppm in the the last 5,000-7,000 years. 20,000-25,000 years ago CO2 levels were down to 180-190 ppm. If CO2 levels had dropped to 150 ppm it would've been a

To extrapolate further on the silliness of 2% growth. Let's convert the entire Earth into pure energy: Earth's mass is 10^24 kg. E_earth = mc^2 = 9 * 10^40 J E_current * 1.02^x = E_earth 474 * 10^18 * 1.02^x = 9 * 10^40 x = 2357.9
