It also requires either a phone or computer that’s increasingly owned by private corporations. The only OS that doesn’t restrict what I can do with it is Linux.

Why would you are about blank lines? Sounds like aborted attempts at a change to me. Then realizing you don’t need them. Seeing them in your PR, and figuring they don’t actually do anything to me.

Damn, this is a good era to be in high school (or university) with a lot of free time. $4000 is a pretty good haul for a few hours of work poking at stuff.

Uh, when my son asks me for the phone, I say no, and he asks me why, I just tell him it’s because I think being bored once in a while is healthy. As long as the rules around using it are consistent he can work with that (he’ll start running

Hmm, I’m fairly certain the ‘having children’ part is what triggers total collapse of the previous worldview. My spouse was adamant that we wouldn’t force our child to study excessively, but we’re at 7 years old and we have a 50cm stack of

I think the problem is that this microservices vs monolith decision is a really hard one to convince people of. I made a passionate case for ECS instead of lambda for a long time, but only after the rest of the team and leadership see the p

NextJS was just bog standard “we designed an insecure API and now everyone can do RCE” though. Everyone has been able to exploit that for ages. It only became a problem when it was discovered and publicised.

We use pretty much the entire nodejs ecosystem, and only the very latest Next.js vulnerability was an all hands on deck vulnerability. That’s taken over the past 7 years.

Once all the code for the services lived in one repo there was nothing preventing them from deploying the thing 140 times. I’m not sure why they act like that wasn’t an option.

I think as I gain more experience, what previously looked like magic now always turns out to look a whole lot more like hard work, and frustration with the existing solutions.

I don’t think I dislike being forced to estimate. I dislike being asked to estimate by the same people that consistently make those estimates worthless by introducing changes at literally every point in the process.
