It's optional and disabled by default for 1-on-1 chats and not available at all for group chats.

Yes, going from WhatsApp to Telegram is a sidegrade at best. Probably a downgrade for most people, since Telegram is unencrypted by default.

Netflix already has https://openconnect.netflix.com/en/ . YouTube probably has something similar.

I looked it up and YouTube is indeed headquartered in the United States of America, a known rogue state that regularly commits war crimes.

uBO shows you what it has blocked on each site. So you can see which sites would subject you to ads without actually having to expose yourself to the psychological terror of seeing those ads. It also blocks things that you don't see (t

Serious question: Why do you browse the web without an ad blocker? I can't imagine subjecting myself to that kind of torture.

Huh - I can't imagine working without a proper setup: keyboard, mouse, at least 2 monitors. Lying in bed is nice, but having to deal with cramped, wobbly laptop keyboards, annoying trackpads and tiny laptop screens really isn't. H

If you install Telegram and message someone, your message is not E2EE. That falls under "not E2EE" in my book.

I'd flip that around and say that server-side chat history, large group chats and multiple clients are hard to implement in the context of an E2EE chat service. What I mean by that is: E2EE is a necessity , not some nice-to-have featu

Not having it enabled by default means most people will never enable it at all. That's just plain reckless. Privacy is a human right; it shouldn't be part of any "trade-off", just like you can't sell yourself into s

As far as I know, one-on-one chats are not E2EE by default (there's a "secret chat" opt-in) and group chats cannot be encrypted at all. Has that changed?

Same reason a business in the "underwear for imaginary pets" space can't be classified as a legit company. It's absurd and surreal.

It's some kind of cryptocurrency thing, so I wouldn't exactly classify it as a "legit company". Still pretty funny though.

If a person creates something that is useful to thousands of other people but capitalism can't even provide for that person's most basic needs, I'd call that a failed system.

15 years ago, PHP didn't really support any programming paradigm very well, it was a huge untyped mess, the standard library was missing a lot of stuff, reusing code meant including individual files based on filesystem paths. Today, PH

I write PHP for a living and every time I look at the JS world, I feel like they're exactly where PHP was 15 years ago, except with 20 times the amount of incomprehensible tooling.
