Very insightful read. But I don't understand why he didn't continue the startup. He even identifies a yet unsolved problem. I would have cut the costs and continue in my own direction and try gaining traction. There is probably room for thi

I am surprised this is standard behavior. So if I allow user X to see my photos it means that user has a right to publish all my photo urls. It doesn't look good to me.

It's because Unix has become very popular and it is good enough for mainstream use despite its flaws. Plan 9 brings certain design improvements but they don't actually justify a need for replacement. It's actually not that surprising since

What surprised me is how this one evil guy took the effort to hack his server. Some strange motive is in place. Usually they scan ip addresses and ports and attack servers randomly.

Don't learn C++ as a starter language. C++ and Java are languages that have been mostly evolved from C. C was designed as a convenience tool to replace stack based assembler programming, which is what existed before any of these languages w

Blocking system configuration is not nice in that it limits freedom, but I think an employee must take responsibility when his tools don't work as expected and fix it at his own expense or just not take the chances and use the standard syst

Much of open source software source code sucks in linux. Things could have been leaner, smaller and written with cleaner source code. I haven't checked thoroughly but I am pretty sure I can find lots of places where code could be factored o

An operating system roadmap that promises to get leaner, smaller, faster on future versions. Not to flame but I switched to Ubuntu after Vista and never looked back.

It's very neat. I had a minor issues with changing text formatting. I would make sure they're smooth. Also the UI updates are mildly slow, e.g. when you press enter for a new line. Could make that a bit simpler/faster.

I think that's not their point. What they advocate is based on Tony Hoare's CSP model. When you introduce locks and share data, your program suddenly becomes extremely complex to validate. Yes if you are skilled enough, you can lock things

If you buy any new ARM related boards I might buy a few from time to time. E.g. beagleboard and accessories, gumstix, toradex and accessories.

We don't need a complex web application. We need a decent-looking website that describes the company, the products, possibly using rich content. A contact form, an integrated blog would also be nice. But we need something more than a basic
