Those two don't go to meetings where they need to leave an impression on someone. When the CEO of my company (who wears jeans day to day) goes to a meeting with a new client, we wears a suit and tie so that the first five second impres

Very interesting article, if horrifying :) As someone whose only experience is in corporate service IT development, from the outside the game dev industry looks incredibly cowboy-ish; it would be nice to read a story where a team built a ga

When PG wrote that and I read it I was working in a Microsoft partner shop developing full-stack MS solutions for clients. In Wellington NZ at the time almost everyone of any significant size, from private to public sector, used MS exclusiv

To me, this all smacks of weakness. If they were not breaking the law (at least in spirit), they wouldn't fear journalists. If they were capable of preventing or at least showing the danger of the acts they claim to fight, they wouldn&

This sort of thing seems a bit like banning Napster. Eliminating the products doesn't eliminate the technology - although I expect the bigger players like Facebook to push back on this so as not to be out competed by smaller companies

I guess where my metaphor breaks down is that as you said Corporations are constrained from doing things detrimental to society (at least in theory), and the way we constrain them is via law. Security services and politicians are harder to

I was thinking these sort of policies are more representative of how democracy and security services are constructed: Politicians just want to show they are doing something, so swipe at an easy target. Security services ask for more informa

You would be surprised, I think. The RSA/AES stuff in C#'s System.Security.Cryptography library is pretty robust and easy to use. Copy/Pasting from MSDN will get you quite far.

Even more laughable that objective differences in skill could be determined during an interview process. Especially when, unless they are watching for it, most interviewers generally hire people who are like themselves.
