This is a meta comment but I think others might have the same reaction: LA Times? Nice to see something other than "what digital camera you should buy this month" in a technology column from a traditional/transitioning media company. Indeed

Do not think for a second that they were unaware of what support for SOPA meant. The lesson for them and others only gets stronger the more continued damage is done. Every registrar and SOPA supporting business watching this should see GoDa

This isn't behavioral modification. You don't need to reward GoDaddy for this change in stance after threatening punishment. Let me state that again: You are under no obligation to pat them on the back so they don't feel sad that customers

Chrome on Linux is awesome. At some point in the past year I stopped having to use command line options to keep it in memory as it defaults to that. Brilliant and slick, I love it. Chrome's performance and syncing is the reason I was able t

@latch is right on about the bank coders. I was based in Asia for 12 years hiring web development and design teams. Six of my 12 years were in HK. Finding top talent is very challenging there. I tended to hire young and train, anything else

There's an Arch Linux dev that maintains a custom repo with Aurora builds and matching Aurora Pentadactyl packages in the AUR, for those on the distro. A quick search on "Heftig Repo" should bring up the correct results, and the BBS thread

I find wifi on the command is still surprisingly hard if using just primitives like iproute2. I'm trying to force myself to use just that for a bit to learn the new(ish) ip / iw commands. Really, though, wpa_supplicant seems to be the most

This is hands down the best Bash resource online or in print. Don't let the "advanced" throw you off. It's the source of pretty much everything (of significance) that I know about bash. For other applications it makes sense to use your scri

Don't think for a minute that BSA members aren't acutely aware of what it does in their name. There was a lot of time during which MS, Apple and others could have come forward with a counter position on this. BSA lobbies on behalf of memb

From a stability perspective, I'd agree. I did want to note that Arch's AUR does put it closer to the Debian package count, but of course the AUR quality is less consistent. I have really come to like the AUR and consider it one of the stre

If Ubuntu had solved the hardware problem in the laptop space already I'd say more power to them. As it is, they really should be cherry picking a limited number of best-of-breed laptop make/models, ensuring support for those and then bakin

Total agreement. I've often thought the same thing about hardware. Ubuntu doesn't need to run on every laptop out there. They need to pick their fights. Not even 100, say 20. Or they make an unholy alliance with one or two manufacturers to

Not an homage at all. ICS and Metro are both examples of Swiss style maturing in mobile UI design. Apple at its best in iOS is similarly executing Swiss style.
