simon_ I fully agree. This is also what drives me nuts about, for example, NPR's coverage of the crisis. I love the Planet Money team for instance but they invariable do their "gosh can you believe how nuts this financial stuff is" schtick

If Zed started off life as a slightly loose cannon coding rock star, I believe we've seen him evolve into something much more important with greater staying power. Here's hoping he stays excited and engaged in the Python community.

Definitely buggy. But they released an update within, oh, an hour or so? of the initial beta, so it's clear they are iterating fast. Very happy to have it, even w/issues.

You got it. I worked in marketing for years and was always shocked at how much personal data we could get our hands on. It makes the recent dust ups about online privacy look (almost) tame in comparison, yet these profiling companies get aw

Forget about Google... Facebook is gunning for Claritas and other profiling companies that have been doing this for years, though behind the scenes and not in real time (see http://epic.org/privacy/profiling/ for more about profiling). Go

Though I'm only a marginal Python hacker and thus consider it unlikely that I could contribute at this point in my development to the code base, I've continued to be interested in things like outreach, particular improving the Python web si

While I don't agree that Google Docs sucks (I think it's "adequate" - not a ringing endorsement - for a simple majority of users' needs) I would like to see improvements. Here's why they are coming: Chrome OS. Chrome OS is predicated on sol

SSHKeychain shouldn't be necessary on Snow Leopard, fwiw, unless you're using it for something other than ssh passphrase caching.

I was a pro shooter for three years and 90% of what set me apart was being a nice guy to work with, being professional and being consistent. * Other pros that I took work from were often jerks. Being a nice, direct and reasonable individual

I recently migrated over to Google Apps Gmail from my own personally managed, rock solid Postfix server. I am comfortable with Gmail because, although I don't own the code, I still own my data. See also: http://www.dataliberation.org/ -

I'd be full time Chrome Mac if: 1. 1Password extension was equivalent to the Safari version (it will get there, I hope) 2. ChromeHelper didn't occasionally go insane and eat CPU cycles like donuts. After quitting Chrome, mind you. 3. I co

When I work from home I get up like I'm "going" to work, put on decent clothes (no pj's) and don't screw around before sitting down to work. I keep a regular schedule just like I was working in situ.

Excellent comment. Most non-technical professional firms I've worked in evaluate performance solely on results. We book our own flights, we schedule our own meetings with clients, etc. In other words, the company expects us to be grown-ups

I find "The Well-Grounded Rubyist" by David Black to be an excellent intro to Ruby. My only comparison is with the Pickaxe, to which it is superior (clearer, scales to different experience levels, not overloaded as a reference).
