His sister (at his behest??) decided to lean into a smaller number of projects for his money. It does seem like a miss that they couldn't keep it going. There's enough money in Seattle that it should have been doable with the ri

There's a great book from a different line that delves into this as a form of what the author calls 'manifold objectivism'. In short, there are some big concepts like Christianity or Islam that people refer to as if it'

It seems like the different AI companies should lean into their 'blend' in terms of AI speak. The analogues for me are spaghetti sauce or coffee. Starbucks for instance has a particular roasting style that you can guess 100% of

My sense (I could be wrong) is that once that amazing engineer really understood the class of problems (i.e. he handled it multiple times) and was really comfortable that they would in fact be able to communicate plainly about the decisions

I often think of my experience at Citibank 15 years ago when I closed my account at the branch. The teller said 'sure thing, just put your debit card into the device and enter your pin'. I did that and he said ok I'll close

Never read that book but I also agree that safety can be demonstrably improved and it's pretty clear that aviation is safer now than in the 70s. One thing that may have helped is that regulations have been slow to loosen since advance

There's a common pattern with other safety improvements that as safety controls improve, people simply push the envelope further. Cars get safer but then the drivers also get more confident doing things that nobody would get close to
