Similar experience. A VC told me that "Money is flowing freely right now" and to "take advantage of it". Implicit message was that it won't be this way in the near future and now is the time to jump on the wagon.

IMO, the book is over-hyped and not that helpful. It's incredibly easy to spot people who utilize concepts in that book and are not being genuine in their interaction. 'Masks' are a great way to prevent authentic connection.
