Congrats on the decision , always glad to see Case grads doing awesome things :) It was great to meet you at our link-state conference this fall. I was the one organizing that, although I only spoke to you briefly. Always glad to hear peopl

Aside from just having a good article/project, it takes good timing, good luck, and sometimes some good upvotes from friends to make the front page. I've had a few things which I was sure would take off not make the front page, in

Flipping 76 in a row is extremely improbable in the physical world, but fortunately we have computers (Where it's still quite improbable). [10] pry(main)> choices, tries, current, current_max = [:heads, :tails], 0, 0, 0 [1

When I was working in my college IT department, I had a computer come in once that was refusing to load things. I started up firefox and nothing was really moving, then I started moving the mouse around and all of a sudden it worked. I took

Couldn't agree more. I've been making a website pretty much just for personal use, that is kind of a timeline/personal journal. I write lots of random posts and thoughts and for every day, I write down a summary as well as re

A function can reference itself without defining the name twice. These both work just fine: var factorial1 = function(n) { return n < 1 ? 1 : n * factorial1(n-1) } function factorial2(n) { return n < 1 ? 1 : n * factori

It can be very nice to be able to sit on the couch on your laptop and play games with the power of your PC. Me and some friends are almost done with development of a streaming solution that works pretty much like this (Based on NVIDIA Games

Nice! I had been thinking about making something similar. There are very few quality web IRC clients out there. I had a chromebook for a while, and I was stuck using Mibbit which is pretty terrible.

Ya, this is a good thing. Ruby started shipping with rubygems since 1.9 and it's worked great.

Ah you're right. Hadn't actually tested this. The way that I've actually used it is for `is_num?` and using `Float()`. I didn't consider the fact that `Integer` would cast a float.

Here's the shortest I've gotten after looking at some of the comments: IO.write$*.pop,ARGF.lines.sort.join And yes, it does work even without the space between `write` and `$*`. Also after testing, I realized the ('\n&

I believe you still need to join on newline, the default is space. However you can save a couple characters by using `$*` instead of ARGV. Also, trim out the space between the arguments and kill the parenthesis for the optimal golfing.

Integer() or Float() let you do cool things like this: def is_int?(x) Integer(x); true; rescue; false end Which will let you know if some input passed can be safely converted to an integer.

Nothing too amazing in there, but still a lot of nice new things. I'm actually pretty excited about the Socket.getifaddrs method. I just wrote a little network scanner the other day and had to do some janky parsing of `ifconfig`.

CommandT is nice for really large repos. At my last job, I worked on a very large rails codebase and CtrlP frequently took 5+ seconds to index, while CommandT was under one second. I also worked with the author of CommandT at that job, whic
