note that you can also use the x220 keyboard in the x230. x220 keyboards are a bit hard to source for a good price, though.

I use a x230 with the biggest battery. It's decently thick/heavy compared to the modern ultra-slim laptops, but it's compact, fast enough and it set me back barely over 300€ total and the battery lasts 9+ hours. It sounds lik

I'm curious, I saw this talked about a lot approximately 5 years ago. I'd have expected this to be relatively standard by now, but it appears not. Does anyone know why this happened?

For small private chats on your phone, not a lot, but because of a number of decisions, it does not work very well with large IRC-style rooms full of people you might not know.

I think you are missing the point. What I think GP was saying is it's sad that the only way to fund grand projects seems to be making them useful for killing other people.

I'm surprised it's done this way... I'd expect that it just doesn't generate the mines until the first click.

I don't think this is accurate. If you look at other comments here, you will see some of them criticizing free and open source software and being highly upvoted.

Note: you are likely being downvoted not for what you said, but for saying you will get downvoted. It's a frequent enough thing that it gets mentioned in the HN guidelines, last I checked.

the 34c3 talk "social bots, fake news and filterbubbles" comes to mind (unfortunately originally in German) The tl;dw of this is that when defining "bots", most researchers used very misleading metrics e.g. ">20

Because any attacker in the middle can purposefully make the https connection fail, thereby causing all data to be sent in the clear. HSTS and hsts preload makes sure that this can not happen.

I'm kind of derailing here, but I strongly disagree about the Blender UX being horrible. After getting used to it, I find it one of the most usable pro tools. The command-based approach is IMO far superior than the usual approach of ha

Also I am told the proprietary nvidia drivers have a software lock that prevents you from using GPU passthrough unless you buy certain more expensive models.

I feel somewhat angry at this tweet. Not because the feature is gone but because they are daft enough to assume that they can sell this as an improvement to their users and anyone will believe it.

As far as I can tell (and from asking the developers), this is simply caused by the matrix.org servers being overloaded. Other homeservers don't seem to have this issue.

From my understanding, this should be possible by setting the sys.settrace hook. It would slow down every function call, but I'm surprised it looks like nobody has done it yet.
