Less “intentional” and more “unavoidable”. There was limited runway to fix the S5L8900 design, the Cortex A8 wasn’t ready at tapeout, and so the ARM1176 was it. If Broadcom hadn’t looked like they were fumbling the BCM2730 it would have bee

The IFX team that produced the baseband firmware had never heard of Sicherheit. It was … riddled with trivially exploitable security issues.

DFU is implemented in the ROM; it is morally if not technically a subset of the open standard by the same name. Recovery mode is implemented in iBoot; it provides mediated access to the command interpreter and some file-ish transfer capabil

To make scatter/gather go fast, you either spend a lot of effort caching descriptor lists for pinned buffers (because you expect to see them often), or heavily optimising your VM's v2p translation machinery, or some combination of

Where do you think it got the game logic from? Recall that this is an LLM; it doesn't "think", it's just cutting and pasting "likely" scraps of things from its training set. At this point, the vast majority of

You need to be able to explain the goal sufficiently well, and then you need something goal-seeky to do the work, i.e. a closed-loop system. LLMs are impersonators. They take a prompt and then make up something that relates to the prompt ba

Because the code was written before unit tests were a thing, and nobody is willing to take the risk / do the work to fix it, especially when "it's been shipping for years and nobody has ever complained".

Opal is quite good, as webcam hardware goes. Still a ways to go on the software, but this sort of thing takes time. iOS phone-as-camera is exceptionally good, but if you need your phone during a meeting, that’s not so great.
