Hopefully not, because that murders performance. The caching exists for a reason, let it do its thing. If you care about data integrity, you don’t trust the disk anyway, so flushing to the disk isn’t enough.

In what sense? Chomsky is generally not worth listening to for a variety of reasons (dishonesty, denialism, whataboutism, tankism, etc.)

Not even remotely comparable. A trivial analogy would be TrustZone with more than one secure world per core. It’s not a terrible idea, but it’s far from a complete solution.

This obviously depends substantially on the implementation, but (especially for standalone devices) there tends to be metadata access associated with translating a given LBA to a physical page. This brings cache locality of reference into t

The suggestion that an individual or a community could actually build, let alone maintain, any of these OS distributions for older hardware is disingenuous. There is literally no chance whatsoever that, even with complete access to all of t

NAND also suffers from read disturbance; since they are emulating NAND devices, it seems reasonable to assume the FTL in the controller will be tracking reads as well as writes and refreshing blocks accordingly.

It does work in software engineering. You are mis-characterizing both problems in essentially the same fashion. The purpose of setting a deadline is not to achieve a specific thing at the nominated date, but to establish bounds on the tim

Projectional editing (and storing the AST, not the projection) are both grail-level items for me. I’m traumatized by the lack of attention mbeddr got; while it was active / maintained it felt like the next big thing for C-family develo

There are simpler and better approaches. Fortunately for us all, IP datagrams are not JSON-encoded, for example.

If by "you" you mean "the corporation", then no. A software BU doesn't make donations. It can purchase things, which is the point of the quoted comment, but it can't just give money away. From a corporate accou

NuttX is what you get if you ask “what would a POSIX runtime for small computers look like?”. Where most RTOS things (few of which are realtime at all, but whatever) emphasise hardware abstractions / device models etc., NuttX accepts t

I'm in the same boat. This seems like an enormous amount of work to avoid archiving compiler binaries for a baseline architecture, and supporting cross-compilation.

RV32E seems dead in the water - no value, no movement, no uptake. RV32I* is ... a dumpster fire, and I say this as someone helping shepherd both silicon specification and reusable software components for it. Really basic things like "h
