Sure, but none of those ML applications are generative AI.

What are the consequences of biases in Stable Diffusion?

This is an obvious trap as biases are individual but you are proposing (or at least hinting at) injecting biases into a universally used model. Or should the ultimate goal be injecting hyper local biases and then selecting the right bias gr

A "regular person" also can: - start their own country and call it Edunistan - bribe ICANN to take over the .edu TLD - open a university in the new country - spend 15 years earning a PhD at that university - reserve ~/name an

If I am not mistaken, when Marc Andreessen was building the Mosaic browser (1993-ish) he and his co-founders contemplated the monetization model for the web. Since micropayments were not possible, the only obvious choice was ads. In this se

"Follow your passion" can be a valuable outlook on life. The overly broad interpretation of that is what many people find confusing. I think it's fair to say that most engineers have a passion for coding/engineering. Wit

Exactly, that's the feature that interested me the most. Ideally, the UI for footnotes would be even more rich: e.g. selecting a word would open a small popup to provide more context.

It's not that weird, you are reading too much into the subtext. The web is in a transitory state, platforms change, people move. Wishing for more content to be available on a specific platform without blaming the author is an acceptabl

The value I see is in constructing more complex prompts. Agree with your example but could see myself using this feature for prompts with multiple objects/aspects that require specific details. Probably not much different from inlining

Interesting point but makes me wonder whether it's meaningful. There are plenty of local Chinese email providers, why would anyone choose Yahoo specifically?

I like this idea. It could be handy to be able to focus on individual descriptions in complex prompts. Is this then mostly a "UI" feature that is being translated to a traditional prompt? (As a side note: using decorative typeface

Off topic... looking forward to more engineers moving to Mastodon. I have Twitter/X blocked at DNS level and still fairly frequently encounter interesting accounts that I can't check out.

That's not analogous. Not including the charger in newer iPhones actually reduced e-waste for me personally. I have collected many charges over the years and don't need more. When a device fails or I trade it in - I keep the charg

The first website I remember using this style is Ableton ( https://www.ableton.com/ ). They built it many years ago.

Great idea! Marissa.ai would have 2 tasks: - redesigning Google logo - buying a failing social network Pretty easy to build I would think.

Too late for some. I will never go back to Windows, won't ever use Bing. Still don't trust any MS product even though I do use VSCode (mostly due to Remote not being available in VSCodium). So objectively speaking I agree that the

Our digital footprints expanded dramatically in the last 10-20 years. While not a single app, a combination of apps made me feel "better" in a way that Gmail made me feel all these years ago. This February I switched to Kagi, Pro

Personally I _want_ to pay for this service. I do not trust free search products anymore. Well... they can't really be free, someone somehow has to pay for the consumed resources.

Why is it not representative? I was surprised by this recent Kagi pricing change but after reviewing my search stats I realized that their estimation is pretty on point.

They had great news reporting and incredible deep dive series (reporting from war-torn territories). Gavin, one of the founders, was not a Proud Boy when he founded Vice. Then became a Proud Boy when he was not contributing to Vice.

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately, the video has been archived already. But that helped me to just look up a UI review video on YouTube. Now I get what the fuss is about! It turns out that I am in some holdout or control group for this UI

Agreed. It's especially confusing because if the user who clicked the Follow button then tries to sign in on that server, they will be presented with a very generic Mastodon sign in page: https://me.dm/auth/sign_in

I heard about this change from so many sources. Where can I see it (which section)? I quit Spotify months ago but curious to see this pattern.

Pandora's discovery algorithm is still top notch. But the rest is just awful: navigating to albums/artists, finding which words are clickable and not clickable, not being able to like or downvote some random sources (if it's

I switched to Apple Music after using Spotify daily for over a decade. Music has a buggy UI as well but at least no podcasts and no books. Their discovery algorithm works better for me than Spotify (and Spotify was so good in the beginning!

Is Tidal still prioritizing US hiphop? I really liked it (about 5 years ago) but left because they pushed e.g. Beyonce to me on every visit on every possible surface despite me having a completely different taste in music.

Interestingly, parents also drive with their children in the car and sometimes get into accidents. What a bizarre world we live in!
