Thunderbolt docks being absolute dogshit is universal across the market, it's not limited to one manufacturer. Apple doesn't have this problem because they don't even make docks they're so problematic. Enjoy dongles, Mac

> Whatever they all do, they can never, ever match the quality of Apple! It's a pretty low bar to meet. Every Mac I've owned has had a hardware failure. Keyboard (x3). Dead trackpad. Display backlight. Logic board. LCD failure.

You're exactly right but it runs contrary to the narrative being spun. A quick search reveals the best ER wait times worldwide are in the US, Germany, and Switzerland, with most the rest of western Europe dead last along with Canada an

There were some pretty public tantrums on open source mailing lists. It's pointless to revisit them. Though I still see the occasional hissy fit over git master branches that were never renamed.

No, it means none of that. It's code. No one that matters looks at it or cares. Making unnecessary changes to code does zero in solving any societal ills.

I am impacted by this and am furious about it. Mostly because I'm reading about it here and not from, you know, Microsoft, of whom I am a customer. If Apple can release updates for ancient iOS versions to update certificates years afte

Wow this absolutely might be the answer! Ethyl acetate is used to wash flux off PCBs. It's also used as an artificial flavoring in British "pear drops" which is probably why some people say it smells like pineapple.

Thanks for confirming I'm not insane! It is a sweet odor, but chemically irritating. It cannot be good to breathe. I'm shocked no one has identified the source of the odor yet. Is it thermal paste? Flux/solder paste? Turtle j

First I heard of this. Apparently it's a meme and Zoomers are huffing their Steam Deck exhaust. Hmm. From the descriptions I've read the smell is similar or identical. Maybe they use the same magic ooze.

M-series MacBooks stink, literally. [1] My newest MacBook reeks of strong adhesive from the vents. Googling revealed hundreds of similar complaints, it's allegedly a solvent they use, perhaps flux. I thought it was the battery. Many c

We call this confirmation bias. The Saab is likely cheaper to operate as it's a smaller plane and Canada only has to patrol its northern border.

Or, consider that the smaller Saab better fits the mission profile for Canada, and may be cheaper to operate, all the while The Guardian is furiously beating off trying to turn this into a bigger story than it really is.
