I think we are rewarded with "tolerance" which we interpret as love, based on our perception of the cat; if it is our own we see it as love; if it is someone else's, we think it is a friendly cat.

What do you mean that it no longer works? Do you mean it won't find drives, won't back up to existing backups, won't restore? I only ask because I'm still on Sierra and see this list of broken features under High Sierra

I am glad to see this continuing. I subscribed for a year and a bit and in that time spent enough money to actually buy a version of Logic Pro X on the Mac; instead I paid monthly to hopefully reach the goal of having a usable DAW on the Ma

Lovely to see this. I used CDE when I was on work experience at Rover and they had a tonne of Sun pizza boxes connecting to their SunOS mainframes. I remember using early KDE (KDE 2) with a CDE colour scheme to emulate the look.

Not sure on Qt's features as I last used it in the KDE 3.5 days for basic basic apps, but I have used wxWidgets extensively. The Mac port has improved significantly recently, although there are still bugs. It uses the native UI so fits

Whilst APFS is an improvement and I fondly remember using BeOS back in the day, I am not sure APFS is that impressive feature-wise compared to NTFS. It's still miles behind NTFS, which is now ancient.

This is very true. As I sit here waiting for my compilation to finish, I am reminded of the "speed" of compilation.

I would choose wxWidgets personally. Easy to build the libraries, plenty of samples. Some bugs here and there but paired with a tool to layout UIs (like wxFormBuilder), you can get a lot done.

We did not ship often! Quality is more important to me than being able to quickly fling rubbish out of the door. Anyone can do that. For audio hardware, you don't want to be grabbing software + firmware updates multiple times a week. Y

As an end-user of software, which do you value more?: a. A smaller executable that makes efficient use of your machine's resources b. A developer with less knowledge and experience who is able to write a memory-hogging desktop applicat

What constitues a "bad amount"? It is displaying a series of text onscreen, with a history of messages for each contact. What's it eating all that RAM for? My mind boggles.

I think wxWidgets is still around and they have Python bindings (not used it, but have used the C++ wxWidgets a lot).

This is odd. It indicates a badly written application with disregard for resources. If efficient use of something like RAM is blatantly disregarded, what about more important things like performance-critical sections of code? Would you be h

Oddly, this does not apply to C++ which has been steadily growing and growing in features, yet gets criticized for being "too complicated". Of course, you can get by knowing only the bits you need, and Stroustrup makes the excelle

Call me old, but how can a messaging app like this use 130MB RAM? I am exasperated that Skype on my machine is using 109MB with only one conversation window open. We seemed to get by with MSN Messenger with far less RAM, and the features we

Stroustrup said he was disappointed with C++17 as it didn't introduce anything massive. You can see him mentioning this widely and openly at cppcon last year. It'll be interesting to see what gets in next.
