Too true! That's probably why all of the agencies near me wanted .doc files so they could scrape them and remove my address to insert themselves as middlemen with the aim of holding both employer and prospective employee hostage to the

How did you scan the documents to PDF? I use a Canon P-208 that has served me well for many many years (long may it!) and the OCR on that works well. Does the scanning system you use not do OCR? I use a Mac and Spotlight does a good job of

Interesting! Halifax Bank in the UK changed their generation library for PDFs the other year such that new statements rendered incorrectly on the Mac. Old statements were fine. New ones were garbage text. Chrome displayed them fine, Preview

Some people are very "funny" about the layout of items and text and want it to be preserved identically to their "vision" when they created it. For example, every "marketing" individual when they see a webpage

How does PCL cope with PDFs? Do you know if some conversion happens beforehand?

How does LibreOffice include the entire document with the PDF? Is there a special "data" section of the PDF that includes this? Can you point me to any documentation regarding this? It sounds quite good TBH.

I like how your demo is clear and also in Linux! Surprising. The page is clear and easy to understand, looks good. Well done.

I liked KDE 3.5 as it had everything in it (Konqueror was useful with the protocols for SSH file transfer etc., it really did everything) but the KDE2 with the purpley CDE look was great. Not so keen on modern Linux UIs. They seem to be cop

Yes, it was a bunch of SIMMs (I think - they had metal edge clips to destroy your fingers compared to modern DIMM insertion) that they chucked out at school (they gave them to me instead of binning them). It would have been more normal for

I kind of miss how speedy and usable a desktop like this was. I remember running Windows 95 on 64MB RAM (even did it on 16MB, barely) on a 486 DX2 66MHz (it was something someone else had thrown out, in the era of Pentium IIs, I was poor).

I used email in the early ISDN days on a shared network. Perhaps people's expectations of how much data (base64!) they want to shove in an email have changed since then. I did once use 2G to VNC over SSH to a machine for work and that
