Ah interesting. I wasn't aware of the bankruptcy claims later on. I just remember the original issue where people were complaining about the focus on outreach programs instead of just software in general. Interesting, thanks.

I use the Microsoft wireless keyboard next to my Pi4, so it's essentially the same form factor?? It's surely identical to asking how someone uses their BBC Master and then complaining when someone with a BBC Master Compact tells t

That's actually made me laugh out loud. It's like you'd be constantly subjected to a cacophony of a senseless din for no reason at all whilst browsing the site. Insanity.

I use my Pi4 with 8GB as a daily machine. It sits as a SSH box so I can remote in from outside and use the other devices on my network if I need to. It runs a VNC server on the main desktop. It also runs piHole to block adverts on my networ

This seems to be a repeat of the GNOME issues years and years and years ago where people would complain that donations were used to try and encourage women to program instead of spending it on infrastructure etc. I seem to remember people w

I am pretty sure that the gold standard would be real life. It doesn't require energy or batteries to just exist in real life, unlike the army of devices that will be required to support all this new tech and network infrastructure. Ve

Surely you can replace "C++" with any other language and it'd still be true? I look at the colossal ancient Delphi codebase that my old employer had as a great example. Or the Magento system in PHP as another example. Or all

That just seems to be a reluctance to learn and stay relevant? You can indeed get away with writing C++98 but the rest of the world keeps turning. I used to work with a guy who would hate all the "new stuff" and then belittle and

What about putting using std::vector or whatever in the header or implementation? Saves littering the codebase with std:: everywhere without having to do a blanket using namespace std;

Read Stroustrup's blue book written after C++11 was released. Not only is the font nicer than the white 2003 edition, it goes into sufficient detail to understand the new (now old!) features of C++11. I couldn't imagine writing C+

Why is for-each out of the question? for(const thingy &x : myContainer) What's so illegal about that??? Are you also not writing your own move constructors and assignment operators?

I think many C++ devs haven't read Stroustrup's book. The intro to C++ chapter covers most of what they need to know and then the rest of the book goes into beautiful detail with examples. Most of the C++ developers I worked with

Yes I thought the same thing. We can only hope Facebook does go down the pan with it as it appears to be a cesspit of self-serving self-obsessed commercialism - kind of like a microcosm of the Internet actually..... Sad.

Amusing to look back on the TMobile G1 (the first Android phone) from 2008 and see the reviews bemoan the lack of headphone socket - https://www.cnet.com/reviews/t-mobile-g1-review/ How little we have learned.

Support for disk formats other than Parallels own format. VDMK and VDI and other formats are actually usable on VMWare and VirtualBox but you're out of luck with Parallels.
