I think there's an entire generation that think that UIs should be bloated and slow and have taken web apps to be the norm. It's very sad.

Lunacy. Change looks like progress to some people. And doubly so if it looks like all web UIs these days - loads of padding, giant buttons, and really slow to load and render.

But it just wraps the native controls...? You're effectively saying that native controls are not for 2022...

A truly excellent toolkit. The code is very readable and the developers are quick to communicate/respond on the forum or stackoverflow. I wish more people used it instead of writing "apps" that are just a giant web browser wi

You're not missing much if you can't get series 2 onwards! The crew of all Star Trek ships now appear to need to have a group hug and good cry every episode and tell each staff member how important and unique they are rather than

I use pbzip2 with gusto because the original bzip2 is single-threaded. I heartily recommend it to all I meet, even those in the street!

This is such a good summary. I went from Linux to macos a decade ago and then have come back to Mate on Linux because my macbook is too old to be supported, and also because macos was really leading the way in needlessly locking stuff down

It seemed to start around the GNOME 3 time when they were "simplifying" apps by removing all useful UI elements and hiding them in a hamburger menu that you couldn't access with the keyboard, ensuring you spent 80% of your ti

I can't work out why you wouldn't develop a native app anyway - all this scaffolding in a Web UI to imitate native controls (like menus) seems completely backwards to me. Seems just lazy, but in an odd way because writing native a

Next in line, let's hope it's Elite Dangerous: Odyssey! Brilliant when it works and very beautiful, but with odd bugs and reversions that indicate that their internal source handling system is a mess or the code is made of spaghet

Yes yours is the posher model! Mine is a LCD - just dug out the model number and it's TX-49EX600B. I languish in LCD land. (And it's 49" - no idea why I thought it was 42").

Sorry to be vague. I blocked various domains that the TV wanted to use in order to send data back, eg. ichnaea.netflix.com collect-eu-fy2017.myhomescreen.tv x2.vindicosuite.com But it is allowed to access other domains such as: nrdp.prod.ft

Interesting spreadsheet! For a Git GUI for Linux (and Windows), you might like GitAhead which builds under Linux? It's not under active development but has been forked to GittyUp: https://github.com/Murmele/Gittyup

Yes you are right. If just connecting to the Pi, port forwarding is fine (and I use this). When adding more devices at home (IP cameras etc.) and not connecting just to the Pi then the Wireguard VPN comes in.

Why not just run Wireguard on a raspberry pi, set up DDNS to send your home IP to a Dynamic DNS provider (if you're on a dynamic IP), and then SSH to your machines at home using keys (instead of passwords)? Setting up a Pi and running

Yes the lifetime out of my old one has been great, so I am pretty confident I'll get the same lifespan out of my other 2016 one no problem. I'll ponder what device to get next since I might just get a Mac Mini at home. I already h

Yes, it seems bizarre that the dismissal of various other devices as Chinese (Huawei laptops?) doesn't impact Macbooks, which are also all made in China. The Huawei laptops look excellent Apple copies from what I can see.
