Scary fact: everything you "know" is based on convincing storytelling. Perhaps reading Gladwell is a good way to be reminded of this, that all knowledge is tentative, subject to revision. (If yours isn't, you're dogma

I far prefer self-checkout. You can take coins, notes, and receipt separately (note have them all forced into your hand, to be awkwardly separated later). Paying by card would avoid this, but prefer to stay in touch with my expenditures.

I see nothing wrong with releasing an utterly bare-bones version, like the schema one he mentions, i.e. a MVP. Then, you polish over time. Even SO wasn't a SO clone at launch. (Of course, if someone promised a complete clone, that'

Well, they compile to Lua and then use a JIT on the device. Using JS for hardware is an audacious, repulsive, brilliant, horrifying idea - maybe people don't want to call it web assembly language , but it's certainly web lingua

That's the problem with irony, it can be difficult to be sure, unless you have out-of-band info about the speaker. As in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poe%27s_law I wasn't being sarcastic. I was agreeing with

On the topic of brand, I always read "tarsnap" as "tarsnip" - like a parsnip. I think I get the name (unix `tar` plus a snapshot or securely locked in). It's not lack of familiarity - I've known about it for ye

Like VR, touchscreens have not good enough latency . Because many components and their architecture contribute to latency (touch-CPU-RAM-app-OS-GPU-display), an integrated approach better improves it. NB: For Christensen, "not good en

An intuitive way to sense latency is to drag you finger and see how far behind the cursor trails. Research showed that people can perceive even quite low latency: http://www.techspot.com/news/47784-advances-in-touch-scr

Thank you! A contrast with academia is a good way to look at it. Also, one might say Bricklin et al did get the academic reward of being recognized as first; but that ethically, whoever helps people most deserves the greater reward (throu

your computer at home has everything waiting for you just the way it was at work. Though not your phone (if you need to work at other times/places). Historically, we've cycled between distributed and centralized computing.

javac is itself written in java, so you can write a little program that does that in a loop, waiting for some trigger. I actually just had it in a shell, waiting for you to hit return, which also called my code after compilation. An unexpec
