It's not what they can't do, it's what they WON'T do. They must decide your idea is bad and you must prove them wrong.

My bsd init and sysv init machines do not have this issue. They don't automount every damn filesystem they see at boot for no reason.

Like unbricking ftdi chips, the kernel team has a great track record of taking care of users where the vendors fuck them over.

Nothing. It's the same as nvidia's non-gpl kernel modules. The simple fact is they will never be accepted upstream, but that matters little to distributors of ubuntu's scale.

My interpretation was that it would affect future iphones, not current ones. This is less to do with what was said, and more to do with what is practical. It would be absolutely trivial to disable security features before selling to the cus

I'd like a disable-all button for web development. Also to have the old behavior back for soooo many things... like hitting enter in the URL bar actually load the URL even if it didn't change.

Having random thrashing return useful instructions (like making the button they SHOULD be clicking on glow or blink a few times) is not a bad design pattern. Reminds me of the annoying (to me) new mac wiggle-for-massive-cursor feature.
