Cuteness aside, the out of the box experience with a mac is really good. Everything is polished and there are no nag screens when you first boot up. The first experience with a new Apple device seems carefully engineered to make the owner f

I really hated the politics and rhetoric of 24, but was somehow compelled beyond my will to watch every single episode. I knew it was unhealthy as I'd stay up way too late and ended up getting weird & anxious (head full of of right-wing

I really do hope they decide to go with WebGL. Keeping a fragmented ecosystem with a 'WebDirectX' or some other proprietary new tech will just slow overall progress in this area. For web developers doing 3D it means "This site requires IE/T

Agreed. There are always going to be classes of applications that need every bit of performance they can squeeze out of their host platform, and will be written native to that platform. Web apps are very useful things, but this "native code

Perhaps that is a fair point, but can you imagine the fallout if something like this ever slipped through and was downloaded by an actual user? It is easy to see why they don't take kindly to this sort of thing.

The lesson I would take away from this is that Apple should provide a mechanism for security vulnerabilities to be reported officially so that researchers don't have to engage in these sort of dubious activities. Whether they listen to the

And security research does not trump the developer agreement. The guy submitted a real live exploit to the Joe-User facing App Store. What on earth did he expect would happen?

If "IE6 Lameness" was indeed discussed prior to starting work, well that's just bad planning on the clients part. You just want to be sure IE6 support wasn't implied in the contract...

It's their site & all, but criticisms like "ugly, tasteless, boring, & unoriginal" could just as easily be levelled at about the same ratio of films as games.

Totally agree, both men are worthy of great respect. Regarding Richard Stallman you can take or leave his personality, but he does take a very long view of the software ecosystem and he has made more than a few prophetic observations ("The

I'm an iOS developer & a fan of the app store system (from the small indie developers point of view), but there is no way I can kid myself that iOS is an open platform. Javascript & HTML are very nice inclusions, but really unless y

This matches my own experience with productive nocturnal coding marathons. There's something very tranquil and calm about knowing the outside world is asleep. The dark has the effect of making it hard to see anything that isn't immediately

You forgot this bit in the technical requirements: -PC or MAC with internet connection -Web Browser (Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 is recommended) So... they mean a (pretty old) PC with internet connection then?

Absolutely agree. In my 20's I was completely certain that I would be successful without hard work as I was smart & talented. After a decade of that imagined success not materialising I am far hungrier, more determined and working harde

Procedural content like this adds a nice random, exploratory feel to a game. It's also really interesting in that it allows the programmer to leverage their skills in the creation of game art (still needs some artistry in the tweaking thoug

With the changes occurring at Google right now, could we be feeling the impact of Page taking this advice to heart? It seems Google are pruning a lot of stuff they must see as external to their core business, and putting happy-safe bubble w

When I saw the headline I really hoped it would be about Dwarf-Fortress or NetHack & not some metaphorical "Greatest Game". Not only is it all about NetHack, it's one of the loveliest bits of web design I've seen. Bravo!

While the adage "physical access == game over" is definitely true, it's a bit less useful now as more & more devices are portable. Previously, physical access meant someone broke in or fraudulently gained entry to a room where your pc/s
