Aw yeah, Chartbeat is way cool. Can't recommend it highly enough for any sites or services that could benefit from up-to-the-minute data.

Thanks! Unfortunately, iOS 5 is required for a few of the tricks I'm using in the app. For what it's worth, my fiancee uses my old iPhone 3G and she can't run Faraday either. I really hope the next gen iPhone/iPod Touch will send the low-en

I'm still on the fence about sync. There are a lot of good reasons not to; besides intentionally not including it for the sake of compartmentalizing functionality, it would be a pain in the ass to make it work with the UI and UX of the app.

You know, the sad thing is that I've got a Linode server that's more than capable of handling the load of static pages. I just liked the themes on Skrivr and didn't want to let aesthetics distract me from writing up my post, so I just went

Apparently Skrivr can't handle HN, so I've put up a flat-file version of the post here: http://samuelfine.com/iphone_lessons_learned.html [Edit] Looks like Skrivr is entirely down. Not sure it's my fault, but it was working all morning.

Awesome. I don't have a "proper blog" up yet and assumed a third-party service reading a static text file wouldn't die. Serves me right. I'll work on getting that page forwarded to something more stable, I appreciate the heads-up.

Thanks! I've been a big Gary Vaynerchuk fan for a while, he's all about the hustle. To an insane degree. Check him out if you want to go more in-depth about it.

Oh wow, I linked to it right at the top, guess it wasn't as obvious as I thought! I'll edit to make it a little more noticable, thanks for pointing that out.

Submitter / Creator here. I built Faraday to live on my desk while I work throughout the day. I'm a freelancer, so my days often involve jumping between projects and irregular schedules. Faraday lets me block out sections of my day quickly

Why disappointed? It runs XMBC and decodes 1080p. That's pretty much all I need from a media center PC.

"So basically, it is a crappy, overly slow, wrong architecture, barebones media streaming computer." Funny, that's exactly why I want to buy one. Have you priced set-top boxes lately? The cheapest Roku won't stream from another machine on

I'd be more excited if these were being built by a company that didn't have a stake in the smartphone wars, but hopefully they'll be "open" enough to work with any OS via Bluetooth. Either way, this sounds kind of amazing. I look like a ner

My cycle: 1. Use Sublime Text for a few weeks. 2. Get annoyed at a tiny issue. Ugly icon, window UI, font rendering, etc. 3. Consider switching to TextMate 4. New version of Sublime Text fixes one/all of my issues. 5. Use Sublime Text. I'll

In my experience, practically anything to do with a government and technology is certain to be a terrible mess. Forms are just the tip of the iceberg; take a look at any interface created to "replace" a paper form. I haven't seen one that l

The problem with interface-less mobile apps is that the interface provides critical cues to the user about functionality. Phrases like, "...a finicky piece of artifice that we have to strain to understand" is only indicative of a poorly de

Incredible. I wish someone had told me this a few years ago, would have saved me a ton of grief. Jeremy Keith said it best in the comments: "box-sizing: border-box is the bee's knees."

Wasn't offended, but I was put off by how immature parts of the article were. The game itself is quite an achievement, and while I certainly don't expect suits and ties, I think the tone undermines your effort and accomplishments thus far.

Yes, through the Xbox Live Indie Games program (they might have renamed it recently). Problem is, he wouldn't get the promotional backing that a "real" game gets, both from MS and from a publisher. Those games hardly get any attention, and

Cmd-F "fastmail" I've been using them for a few months now, definitely worth the price. Really quick and easy to add new virtual domains, and the spam filter is decent enough for my inbox. Highly recommended.
