> Uber has a lot of teams, a lot of engineers, and so it makes sense that there are a lot of API boundaries to allow them to work together more efficiently. Isn’t that the premise of the question? Does Uber need so many engineers?

I don't have any proof that it's possible. I'm just saying that it's conceivable that it may be possible. As motivation, consider a quantum computer, where the vast majority of computation done is reversible.

What evidence do you have that there is a causal inverse relationship between public sector growth and private sector growth? Isn’t it entirely possible that private sector growth has lagged because some third process has produced fewer ent

The implementation of many types of computation are not 0 entropy, but it’s just an implementation detail. Sure, if you truly want to erase memory, then you can’t do that without an entropy cost. But if your goal is to store information X f

Most information was locked up in the hay day of libraries as well. It’s not like your local library contained every book that has ever existed. But, back then, if your library didn’t have it then you had almost no chance of even knowing it

It’s actually comical that Cloudflare is trying to blame Okta for this. A Cloudflare employee uploaded secrets to Okta’s support tool. That is what caused the breach.

This link is totally wrong. At least 50 ms counted is unnecessary. For instance, one frame usually takes 16 ms in a 60 fps game, but the link somehow stretched this out to 48 ms. This is trivially easy to verify. Open up a profiler and meas

This thread is full of people who haven’t used a leaf blower before. An electric leaf blower might be enough to clean off a sidewalk, but you’re not going to do any serious amount of work with an electric blower, especially in the US where

A huge portion of the Japanese economy is based on the auto industry (something like 2.5% of GDP). EVs are much simpler than ICE vehicles. Additionally, Japan doesn't have expertise or the raw materials to be competitive in batteries,

There are plenty of rocks with a human form. The moai for instance. They’re pretty much universally considered to be artifacts of human life. But I think the point is that, we know the moai are human built because we know that humans are li

There should be an attempt to calculate inflation separately from changes in productivity. Tech, for instance, has largely been deflationary due to technological improvements. Real estate, on the other hand, has been inflationary due to mon

Replacing parts of curl with Rust will not be possible. Most places want to build from source and don’t want to introduce a new compiler to the tool chain. And Rust supports a tiny subset of possible C targets.

While true, I think the original complaint about the backlight was more about the fact that the TV is emitting light, which a picture doesn’t do. OLEDs don’t solve that problem unless you want to display a black square.
