I'm from the UK, and despite having interests in government I paid little attention to our immigration process until I started to look into that of the USA. The problem is simple to sum up: highly skilled workers aren't going to sneak acros

Very true. The question is whether the government saw sense and scaled back it's unsustainable future drive, or whether things just stalled. I'm still undecided.

This did seem quite surprising to me as well - I think they might have let it go if it wasn't quite such a high rate of ascent. 2000ft/min could easily give them a final altitude way above what they'd expected.

This is the big change between now and Kittinger's jump in 1960: private, truly non-governmental* companies can and will achieve incredible things just to market some sugar water. * I see a distinction between companies like SpaceX and thos

They've mentioned that even something like acquiring a replacement balloon would take weeks, let alone the men and materials involved in such an effort. I doubt the funding or will is there to go for it, at least without another level up of

The launch would be to an orbit that would decay in a short-ish time (perhaps fairly elliptical?), since SpaceX wouldn't want to leave the second stage up there long term as yet another large piece of space debris. Talking from the knowledg

I have to admit though: Netflix's (Silverlight) player is remarkably stable compared to anything I've ever tried in Flash.

Exactly. People seem to be designing entirely consumer focused experiences around a problem that's main pained group and largest collection of cash is the upper echelons of corporations.

The website works terribly. You can use it, but it's far slower to pan than the old Maps app and you seem to have to tap a few times for half the interface to function properly.

It's at all UK airports with these, I believe. On the flip-side I've flown several times since the introduction and never been singled out for forced irradiation so it's not certain you'll be made to do it.

I hear you. People often seem to think I've done a lot for my age, whilst I'm thought strange for not necessarily agreeing. I think the big thing is that most people don't have that interesting a life until after college, and many of those

The first issue you'll run into is that the graphite grains they are using "several tens of micrometers grain size graphite powder" [1]. It might not be straightforward to make that from a pencil, but you could buy the powder online. I've n

This is how it should work. This is why people try to make friends with their bank manager: the working relationship helps the bank know who the hell they're dealing with, and so means they can communicate better and have goodwill. That Pay

That RoR isn't typical for government is much of the point. They've been spending 20x too much for one-tenth of what they should have: moving to traditional web tech is a pretty brilliant step forward. As regards scaling, it's a valid conce

Thanks for this, enjoy hearing about Github as a company. > I'm also quite sure the number counts deploys across all of our applications. For instance, deploying a change to github-services counts as two, since I have to deploy changes

Not quite. A wave going left forward in time is equivalent to a wave 'going right' but backwards in time. Since it is further right in the past than now, it is actually going left. There's a lot of similar effects in Physics, especially wit

I didn't know about the wheel morse code - that's pretty awesome. I'd loved some technical detail about what exactly the beacons are? Javascript, images, special characters...? The CloudFlare page isn't exactly informative in that regard.

It depends on what you consider a player, in my opinion. I admit that 95% of the users who open a PC game may not be playing a copy they purchased, but in all likelihood most play it for about 5 minutes. Just as with pirated iPhone apps, wh

Thanks for the heads up - could you email us some more details (contact@dreamforge.me)? It seems to work fine in Firefox for us so we'd really like to get to the bottom of this for you.
