Isn't Myrddin another name for Merlin or something...maybe Latin? Myr is too much like Mir (Russian space station). Edit: Wikipedia search says it is Welsh for Merlin & Merlinus is Latin for it.

I'm an EE, so I did take some microprocessor and FPGA classes and can write some assembly. With that being said, my day job isn't programming, but engineering which involves a lot of managing data so scripting languages are very v

Can anyone who watched the video summarize? I'm interested in the subject, but don't have the time/concentration for long videos when an article often suffices.

Second this. I'm an electrical engineer who writes SQL queries daily. Knowing where your data is, how it is organized, and enough tools to do something with it: SQL, Excel, Python, R...etc is vital for making business decisions. W3Scho

Only a little bit. Most IT CyberSecurity teams can use bad stats to justify their value and additional staff, so they want to bring it up at every opportunity. I don't necessarily disagree, but power users often get frustrated by red t

A lot of IT security teams do this. On one side it is depressing, but on another side it is annoying to have to hear them talk about it every staff meeting. All companies seem to have people with zero understanding of computers and will fal

Not parent post, but to me, Nim is very easy to write coming from Python. For virtually zero effort, I can get near C speeds in a tiny self-contained executable. Rust is probably more mature (more users) but requires me learning a lot of lo

You can do APL with pen and pencil (or stylistic calligraphy with fountain pens like the APL god Aaron Hsu), but the REPL is great. I was able to easily and incrementally build up a solution with the tryapl.org REPL.

I work in this field (electricity markets) and don't really see microgrids fulfilling this niche anytime soon. Due to FERC Order 841, we will see a surge in grid-scale batteries and our markets (in the US) will have to accommodate this

Agreed. If there are 100 problems in a book and I work all 100, how am I to know if I did it right? If I get one wrong (which I assuredly will), how am I to see what I did wrong? Some teachers are awful too and the only way to learn is to g

There are plenty of engineering programs without ABET accreditation. If you get a degree from a non accredited program, you'll likely have a different title than engineers who graduated from an ABET school and will make less. This is b

Unless you have a professional engineers license, you can't testify in court as an engineer. To get a professional engineer's license, you must graduate from an ABET accredited program.

No, this is pretty much how coordinated transaction scheduling works with several of the power markets in the US like NYISO & PJM. You put in a transfer you want based on a certain spread between each market's price.

It's not a scam, but you're correct that they don't produce anything physical. Their point is to mostly converge disparate markets. So if they notice a separation between day ahead and real time prices, they can make money of
