Yeah I'm surprised no one else questioned this. If I'm being blunt, when I hear "this person is sending me secret messages when they talk" the first thing I think of is paranoid schizophrenia. Also "my device is bug

Dashboards are great for correlation. After an alarm fires you check the dashboard and compare all the graphs at the time of the incident. It's a great way to get more information about what is and isn't broken.

I also struggle with staying motivated. For me paying for classes (by enrolling in a master's program) was the best way to continue learning after undergrad. Any time I'm enrolled in a class there'll be nights when I'm r

+1 to foodwishes. Most of my cooking knowledge comes from those videos. One thing that's hard to get from recipes is the actual cooking techniques, e.g. how loud onions should sizzle when you saute them. Foodwishes is great for learnin

Job 1: Very old technology. Wanted more money Job 2: Government contracting job and by the end I had no work. Bad culture (there was no work). Told me they were debating between a 2% and 2.5% raise and decided on 2.5% because they really li

Agree. It's really, really to hide the fact that you're an asshole/selfish bad actor in an interview. It's also surprisingly difficult to gauge someone's skill for a job; just look at any HN thread on how to do inte

I appreciate the humor but I also think working in tech is much easier. Like you can be 25th percentile programmer and have comfortable salary/job security vs 99th percentile violinist.

Reminds me of this article [1] about Goodwill stores hiring people with disabilities like blindness and paying them way less than minimum wage (22 cents, 38 cents and 41 cents an hour). I found the article very though-provoking. Yes, they a

There's a difference between accidentally and knowingly breaking a rule. Regardless of if you feel the rule is fair or right, knowingly breaking is more egregious, e.g. manslaughter is not as bad as first or second degree murder.

There's no denomination or sect that actually tithes 10% on average. There was a freakonomics episode about it. There was as researcher who found that certain donominations tithe more or less but none reached 10%.
