Can anyone explain why they would (a) crash, rather than attempt to land the probe on the comet's surface, and (b) turn the power off at the moment of touchdown? Everything I've read (admittedly, not much) says they will get more

I have a couple of DIP packages lying around, probably new. Unsure what you mean by support equipment though?

I first learned Zilog Z80, and when I started programming 68k it felt like a high-level language in comparison! I too have written 100's of thousands of lines of 680x0 assembler and still get a warm nostalgic glow when I see move.l, ad

I don't think the argument is a technical one. Most folks on HN probably have some appreciation of the immense vertical engineering investments that have made printer technology so good. I for one am always quite astounded by the engin

I can't recall - do you have to agree to the Windows EULA before or after the automatic update?

I once got a full refund on a laptop outside of its warranty period because a software update (Windows 8.1) effectively bricked the machine. I demanded it under the UK Sale of Goods Act, which states that a product must be fit for purpose,

Your point about consumer spending is spot on. The five day week is only 100 years old, and it was none other than Henry Ford who was partly responsible, so that his own staff (who happened to be some of his best customers) could take time

I can't understand the confusion here - which bit is hard to follow, the graphic or the sexism?

Excellent. I kind of thought it must be true. Suddenly everyone's a script kiddie running aircrack-ng and no-one's home wifi is safe anymore!

IIRC, Elliot at one point acknowledges that the viewer already knew what was coming. But the twist is Season 2 is much, much harder to spot. Reminded me of Life of Pi.

10 picoseconds is "one millionth of one millionth of a second"? Damn it, I must have been misunderstanding engineering units all my life.

I did something very similar, way back in '92, on a 68000 SBC. I pretty much copied the important bits of the Unix kernel, but all in assembler!

I think you sum it up pretty well. As a techie who has never understood music, and who is fascinated by watching my own kids learn and understand music theory (something I was never exposed to as a child), I found this an interesting articl

I'm 48 and been a programmer since I was at school. I do contracting/consulting work so regularly change jobs, and I personally feel I have encountered surprisingly little ageism. I suppose a lot of it comes down to your attitude

Here in the UK they spent the last 25 years dumbing down the education system so that A grades are now average and fully half the population get a university degree. Surely that can only serve to reinforce the impression of young people tha

Neat ideas. It never even occurred to me that the power rail would be voltage-programmable, but of course it probably would. Your second idea is even more scary and realistic.
