OpenStack isn't an open source AWS, it's also vm management. It works with XenServer, KVM and ESX. I can't speak for Aeolus, but OS had 3 components last I checked (Nova - the app server, Swift - storage, and Glance - image catalog). I t

You know what, beatle is right, I'm wrong. Not sure when or how I developed the misconception, but I'm sorry for speaking outside my area of expertise and blowing it.

Sorry, I don't know. I think that's the case for all public companies in the US, at least (I don't know if it applies to limited parterships, private corporations, s-corporations, etc). I searched to confirm CEOs were not necessarily fidu

Technically, a CEO doesn't have fiduciary duties. The board of directors does, and the CEO runs the company/reports to the board. I know what you mean, of course.

I think that was said from a shareholder/owner perspective. Microsoft's offer was for more than double Yahoo's current price per share, and that was 4 years ago.

Democracy, the worst system of government - except for the alternatives. But when ~1/3 of people believe in ghosts, it can test one's resolve :)

Why didn't you just google it? It probably took me less time to find http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=2676 than it did for you to type up your response. This is how dumb the American public is: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/20

I submitted a post about this at one point, but Hungary is going through really terrible cultural and political troubles. I really feel for the Hungarian people - in that context, the frustration in this post makes much more sense.

I saw those puzzle ads frequently in Kendall/MIT and Harvard (what, 6-7 years ago?). It was very clever recruiting on your and ITA's part, and a much better way of using brain teasers than as part of an in-person whiteboard session. I don'

No, I meant that Mountain Pass isn't going to be back in production until the end of next year. I should've said it more clearly.

The mine in San Bernadino isn't back in production. You're talking about Molycorp, and their Mountain Pass mine. It's scheduled for the end of next year ( http://www.molycorp.com/AboutUs/ProjectPhoenix.aspx ). And I believe that's with e

I'm happy that you said this so eloquently. Accomplishment and fulfillment are not the same. I had a little draft of a response (which I won't post, because you cover everything better) and it included Van Gogh's last words, "The sadness

What do you consider DBA level skills? Because you mention in one case people using SELECT * where they only needed a small subset of the fields. I'm all for your message that everyone should be aware of the database, but I don't consider

I can't watch the video right now, but the idea that "Everybody's the DBA" is risky in general. I'm hugely in favor of developers writing and optimizing their own SQL, being able to create normalized schema (and know when it's worth the tr
