You can do some of the multi-cursor stuff in VS Code. Missing are editing the directory listing to rename files, doing calculations inline on text and making the whole thing a macro.

But backward compatibility it's not the same thing as OS customization. I also run software last compiled in 1997, but Windows 11 looks a whole lot different than Windows 95 where that software was compiled.

Now that the standard GUI framework for Windows apps is Electron, there is no point in spending resources on legacy WPF. Much better investing that time in the actual tools that devs use, VS Code and Chromium.
