Fusion happens when hot enough hydrogen ions (=hydrogen atoms with the electron stripped so only the nucleus is left) are running into each other often enough. So you need a high enough density of those that stay hot enough for long enough

Fuel is not a major cost right now, but it inevitably will be at some point. Current estimates are that we have 80-250 years of uranium left [0], so we could use a different energy source for the long run. The difference in radioactive dang

Yeah, I think the main contribution of this paper in the long run, might be that the time is right for optimizing the controller together with the hardware? I'm imagining optimizing the plasma configuration, reactor shape, coil/se

Hi, author here. We validated the neural network controller on the real plant in a couple of experiments. All experiments in the paper are based on data from running the controller on an actual tokamak. There is a video of one of these expe

All of these points are up for debate of course, but: * compared to fission, the nuclear waste management for fusion looks to be done within a human generation, rather than outlast human civilisation. So how you discount the future has a la

I reckon more pig feet end up in cat and dog food than end up in a recognisable form in Chinese cuisine. In the West, people eat a lot of pig feet too! It's just sold as mince.
