Good points - I should also note that one of the motor generators actually doubles in functionality as the starter motor for the internal combustion engine. The Prius transmission system is truly a work of wonder and deserves more recogniti

Very similar story in New York. CityMapper seems to work best in urban areas.

Amazed and happy to see so much homebrew work still going on. The Veronica project on this site is fascinating.

Related to this: are there any good approaches to economic simulations of economies at the individual and organizational level? In other words, literally simulate groups of people and the economic organizations that they belong to.

I have a Prius that i drive daily so I can add a few more points: - Engine shuts off a lot during normal gentle driving. - The air conditioning compressor is electrically driven and only come on as necessary - Regenerative braking reduces

I remember reading the famous book by McCorduck and Feigenbaum about the Japanese fifth generation project in the early 1980s. That book had a strong influence on my career and I recall that I resolved to become an AI expert. As it happened

Loved the story and brought back many happy memories of hacking simple circuits with diodes and lights in almost exactly the same way.

As it happens, I work on the Watson dialog service which is being used to make this and similar kinds of bots. IT support is just one of the use cases that we are working on.

This is exactly what has made me extremely nervous about NPM. There is no security oversight at all and modules running on my dev machine with my full credentials could be uploading anything - Looks like I'll have to move node.js devel

The difference is this: When I write code that has an error, I usually get either a compile or run time error. Not so with math!

Every winter, I tend to gain some wait - a few pounds usually. This winter, I have forced myself to go out for walks in the afternoon, no matter how cold it is to get my overall activity up to my target. No weight gain at all. I suppose thi

Great article. I really miss the days when I used to run to my university library ever week to read the latest issue of Aviation Week. A few of us regulars used to wait for the magazine and formed an informal discussion circle and do calcul

Fully agree. Learning the syntax of a programming language (which is about all you can hope to learn in a bootcamp) is just the first step in becoming a programmer.

Currently, there is way too much emphasis on power. Who really needs 200 hp for a family car?

Brings back happy memories. I built a few of the modules of the Elektor Formant synthesizer in the early 80s. I got as far as building a VCO and VCF but ran out of money then.
