Listening to an audio book on some scientific topic will almost always put to sleep within 15 minute. I really like books on cognitive science - I have used books by Daniel Dennet and Dean Buonomano for this purpose. I not only learn intere

My PhD, which I completed in 1992, was about improving back propagation in neural networks. Neural networks were going through an initial phase of excitement caused by the Rumelhart and McLeland book. My dissertation was on modularizing NNs

I agree - considering that Europeans are generally on a positive track for health related statistics, it always surprises me to see how much more common smoking is there. Even in Sweden which has an image of being a healthy country, I have

Agreed - WhatsApp data is getting added to their social graph for sure. However, they have not yet made any attempt so far to, say, inject ads into chats or on the app itself. Despite their statement of end-to-end security, they still contr

This is a ridiculous example but the weaponization risks for adtech are interesting to contemplate. Do ad networks take any steps to verify who is placing ads?

Excellent point about job stability. Its possible to get into a field that looks promising at the moment but then quickly have it become irrelevant. Alternatively, you could get into a field too early and then discover that theres no demand
