This is so true! I am rarely impressed by movie versions of my favorite books. On a related note, I have been reading Judea Pearl's new book, "The book of Why" (truly wonderful book incidentally). I think that stories must, i

Brought back great memories. In the early 80s, I used this chip to build a small analog synthesizer. My dream was to build an Elektor Formant but had to settle for the 76477. But I learned a lot from that exercise

I work at IBM and I can get almost all of my development work down without logging into the company network when working remotely - quite similar to Google's approach. This is a relatively new development within the past few months.

The problem with individual access purchase is that (usually) I don't know if an article was worth reading until I have read it. Not every issue of The Atlantic or the New Yorker attracts my attention but enough go them do so so I have

Related question: can they even pay? The vast majority of the new users of Facebook are from developing countries with low income. There is no way to make them voluntarily pay for access to a social network.

Very well articulated. I wonder if there is a difference between a machine trying to deduce intent vs a human doing the same task. As humans, we may be able to pick up subtle cues that machines simply lack the ability for.

There’s some truth to this since pretty much all electrics have similar power characteristics. But handling may still be a sufficient distinguishing creature. And then there’s always leather upholstery and the double kidneys :-)

I confess that I too fell for the 5th gen hype and spent a couple years diving deep into Prolog in the mid 80s. It wasn't a total waste however, I still find my knowledge of Prolog coming in handy. Logic programming is an interesting c
