Totally agree re: the price tag. Especially since most smaller stores have 100-1000 fans. They can pay $100 to get an additional 100 real fans. $400? I don't think so. Pascal

Interesting. I read your article, expecting something totally different... which does not make your article less interesting. I think that most of the time big ideas start small... in their respective non existing markets. Tesla was a big e

Exposure helps make hits for sure... AppGratis was the best proof of that. The problem of App Search is that app search is a small fragment of the overall search market, and that most searches on the web are for one data point (e.g. search

Sure. Your app can be featured by Apple like Intuit got displayed prominently in Walmart in the 1980s. But on the web, Vyclone would be available on download.com, not get accessed through millions of search terms on google (like Yelp, eBay,

The problem described here is partially inaccurate. The problem of the app store market is that it is largely misunderstood by investors, as it is way closer to the CD-Rom market of the 1990s than it is close to the web of the post Google w

That's great as this is one of the main reason we are using Balanced today for our soon to-be-launched marketplace.

Fair enough. My main point was not that one though, as I am sure you have understood. My main point was to say that the tech industry is an industry and such, it requires people with different backgrounds to grow and thrive. And don't

You are partially true. Omidyar had a business co-founder. Airbnb founders were front end/design folks, Vente-privee in Europe was started by people who came from the liquidation industry. If you look at the last 10 years, many succes

My only caveat is what does "in tech" mean nowadays? > Enterprise software/SaaS Companies have very often been started by sales oriented founders (Siebel, Benioff come to mind). > Ecommerce/marketplaces have very

Well... Many families are also in the suburbs (South Bay or East Bay) as the weather tends to be better and you can have houses with gardens for the kids to play around (also the school system is less messed up there). Which does not mean t

I think that this argument about kids in San Francisco is totally wrong. There are tons of kids in San Francisco...just not in the neighborhood that he went! Go to the Richmond, the Sunset, the Marina, Cole Valley, or especially Noe Valley.

What I mean is that because Salesforce: 1/ hits their sales target 2/ grows reasonably fast 3/ is the leader in SaaS for many large investors (like vanguard) Salesforce has very high valuation, which allow them to acquire Company, raise mon

The truth is that the ZOHO founder is right (acquisition price is a joke, Salesforce product is clunky, Salesforce multiple is crazy). And yet, clear market leaders in high growth markets command premium prices (Amazon has a crazy PE multip

I like how A16Z is so bold. $60M for a Company with that kind of revenues take a lot of guts... and yet, if this is a winner, they are right to do it. Congrats to Lyft- awesome service.

Sorry- my mistake. In the US, the Sponsored apps were marked as sponsored. They could have been more clear about it, but you can see that. The others were just regular content for consumers to discover.

This is plain bullying. Most promoted apps did not pay AppGratis advertising to be in the app. Some did, and they were described as "Sponsored". How do you describe Google Business model then?

AppGratis sponsored content was marked as Sponsored on the screen advertising the app, or by being called "Discovery App of the Day" (vs. Deal).

Most apps were not sponsored. Not more than 2 per week out of the 15 they are promoting in the US.
