I'm sure this is a valid point, but I think it is overemphasized. Much of that tribal knowledge would have been very esoteric and focused on technologies that are no longer critical. for example, fabricating magnetic core memory. I

I recently found this list of spaceflight-related accidents and incidents. There are some truly harrowing experiences, including an astronaut whose helmet began to fill with water during an EVA. He was having difficulty speaking by the time

Dr. Ghrist is awesome. He is also doing a lot of great work opening up learning materials to his undergrad students. https://www.math.upenn.edu/~ghrist/calculus.html

Not metalcore but the punk/hardcore album Joy as an Act of Resistance by Idles embodies this.

As others have mentioned, taxing efficient cars doesn't seem to make much sense. Maybe tax actual miles traveled instead? That would solve the problem of increasing efficiency and also decrease the value of loitering and cruising in-be

Cool. I'm more of a mechanical designer so it is hard for me to understand why this is an improvement because I'm used to requiring a lot of precision in my modeling. That said when he mentioned the ability to get line-of-sight on

Take a look at this Audi production video and you start to notice poka-yoke being used when there is a human in the loop. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZkyfZqlptA In my experience these things are developed over time in

Adventure Rider (advrider.com) is a fun one if you're interested in that niche of the already niche motorcycle hobby.

This reminds me of the MIT course "How to make (Almost) Anything" http://fab.cba.mit.edu/classes/4.140/ ... as well as the follow on course "How to make something that makes (almost) anything".

I agree. Dubliners is also (compared to Ulysses) very readable. I'm almost afraid to admit how much several of the stories resonated with me...

Awesome bike! Exploring on a motorcycle (and meeting people along the way) has a huge return on investment in my experience.

Check out https://diyrobocars.com and http://donkeycar.com for similar projects. There are great communities around both, especially if you want to build your own.

This is a great youtube channel as well! I liked this review on a planar planimeter and how it ties in to Green's Theorem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMvEOmpy8Kw

There are a few reasons I could think of: 1 - Most industrial DMLS/EBM systems have a build envelope far too small for this. A system like the Norsk Merke IV might have the required size, but parts built that that process still require

Very cool! This is a bit of a naive optimization, though. Thermal properties have to be considered when planning SLS builds. Very dense cross sections will result in long laser scan times, and the quality of those benchies will suffer signi
