Interesting! Wonder if it's a quality control issue with the code handling the graphics switching. Afaik, Apple engineers write custom video drivers for every supported hardware device. Wonder if Intel is now contributing more to the g

Docker allows developers to use standard linux command-line skills to assemble and package what are essentially chrooted/jailed applications. Once the application instructions are set in the Dockerfile, it can then be uploaded to a rem

My advice is to stick with a mature configuration management solution like Chef/Puppet/Saltstack/Ansible, and then add on Docker as an optimization. Saltstack in particular has really good Docker integration at this point, wh

would be interesting to hear what the distinction is between useless and core features. Maybe I'm just not hitting core features with OSX 10.10, but the features I'm using seem fine. And not seeing stability issues with third-part

Losing the high ground to what ? Ubuntu 14? Windows 8? Chrome OS? I'm not running OSX as a server OS and don't plan to. But even with the latest 10.10.1, I still see uptime in terms of weeks including mandatory reboots due to OS

In my experience, Ubuntu 14.04 has pretty decent battery life on laptops as long as they use fairly standard chipsets and don't use fancy graphics switching between embedded and dedicated gpus. You shouldn't need to use TLP or do

Is nacl deprecated in favor of the libsodium fork ? Or are both projects strong and continuing in parallel? [libsodium] is a portable, cross-compilable, installable, packageable fork of NaCl, with a compatible API, and an extende

Fixing the H1-B program so that it's harder to game would probably be a great help. H1-B workers also should be given a way to voice complaints or report abuse without fear of repercussions from their host companies. But not sure that

As PG states: it's easy to imagine cases where a great programmer might invent things worth 100x or even 1000x an average programmer's salary. If this is true, rational companies should be willing to pay salaries betwe

I think it's important for all startup founders to realize that non-executive salaries in the U.S. tech industry have been incredibly distorted by the illegal wage fixing practiced over the last 10-15 years. The wage fixing set an arti

I think the "handwringing that docker should do less" has a lot to do with the fact that just getting Docker containers right is a huge effort in itself, and they have a long way to go even there. It's not a solved problem

One thing you might want to check is if you're setting a limit in the driver for the amount of memory ZFS uses for caching. By default it'll use a LOT of memory, so I usually just set to a max of 2GB and don't see any issues.
