Short story - It's a product that I needed that didn't exist. There are only a handful of self hosted project management apps and none of them felt like the right fit, especially with regard to UX. After a couple of years of waiti

It's a great list, but I don't understand why it's limited to SaaS. Self hosted apps could definitely be considered "tools of the trade". Perhaps I'm just biased because I sell a self hosted project management

It's just me - one person. I'm still figuring out marketing. It's difficult. I wrote about some of the marketing challenges I've had on the blog http://duetapp.com/blog

Hey. Thanks for the compliment. Yes, it's a single person project. The initial release took a long time; I was working on it between freelance projects. I'm using a custom jQuery MVC implementation on the front end, some twitter b

I launched Duet ( http://duetapp.com ) in May 2013 and it's been profitable since day 1. I'm going to start focusing on it more so it can hopefully grow into something I can live off of. *edit: I'm very curious to k

Assuming that the product is boring seems like an unreasonable assumption. I see lots of very interesting Show HNs that never hit the front page. I'm pretty sure a big part of it is timing and luck.

A lot of font-icons allow you to set the the icon using class names. So rather than linking to a specific image file or using some obscure ascii code like in the stackoverflow example you linked to, I can just add a class name like 'ic

What do you think about having this process automated? The initial ask can be an automated email and if the person wants to do a referral they can grab an email template via a link included in the email. I'm asking because many busines

I use the app that I built for this purpose ( http://duetapp.com ). It has stripe and paypal built in. Customers can download a pdf copy of the paid invoice for their records.

I definitely dogfood Duet ( http://duetapp.com ), but I learned VERY quickly that it's not enough. My customers use the app in ways that would have never occurred to me and if I rely solely on dogfooding a lot gets missed. Es
