Why only offer easy visas for EU engineers? There are good engineers in all countries around the world, EU engineers are not some special breed of engineers.

China may have a 160 cities with a million+ people, but, do all of these cities have the infrastructure and opportunities that are the same as or come close to Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzen? IMO, this is a case where quantity alone is a poor m

I am just glad that in the HFT world we are not jumping on to this woke bandwagon like the tech folk.

Because wokeness in tech is super high and they actually applaud all this in the name of DEI.

I am an H1B holder and an Indian national. The bodyshops alone did not screw this up. A TON of Indians come here for graduate school, the main motive being that it is an easier path to getting a job here in the US. A lot of them also end up

With FAANG companies it is not as much profit driven as much as it is that they get an employee who will have to work harder than others due to keeping their visa, and will stay for longer at least until their green card processing is compl

Most of the people who are interested in moving to the US, as expat workers, are mostly from India. Let's break this down piece by piece: 1. Canadians have TN visas, so they prefer to use that since there is no lottery for that and it&

I took a Haskell course in grad school. Had a lot of struggle initially, but came to appreciate the language later on. IIRC, Target also uses Haskell for some of their data science teams.

Hahaha, that is pretty cool. I don't think we'd do something like that, especially the "Power Peg" one, at my firm. Although, it'd be fun. > I miss the 2010s Ah, so true. I was in college and grad school during

Interesting, would you add RenTech and TGS into the "traditional hedge funds that incorporated quant methods into a fundamental process" bucket?

I am sorry, I misread it as getting to those numbers as an employee at a trading firm rather than as an applicant. I agree with you. The very, very rare cases where this has happened is for people with exceptional records elsewhere, and man

Yep. At the end it is market making, in markets where speed is of the essence to be competitive. Funny thing is, now firms in the industry want to be termed as Market Makers rather than HFT since the media has turned HFT into a very negativ

It's all about making $$ for the firm. If the strategies developed are very profitable then 7-figures is definitely reachable for the researchers at a prop trading firm.

Most quantitative hedge funds and prop trading firms are now following a very tech like culture since they realize now that technology is just as important as the strategies. To get the best engineers, especially from FAANG, they need to ha

This is interesting, didn't know this about HRT Core Dev where offers were below FAANG. My understanding is that core devs are basically the folks who work on all the low latency stuff, so they'd be pretty well. Jane Street, from

Honestly, that depends on the firm. There are same that do pay very well like this, eg: HRT, Jane Street (they are not an HFT though), Headlands, Radix. Some others like Jump, Optiver the pay varies depending on whether it's front offi

Tbf, most of us don't really prefer to be called as HFT's but as Market Makers. Different name, but we still use the same ultra low latency techniques to get the job done.
