Given the granularity in timing (i.e. 0.000 sec) you are looking for, I don't think active would help; and, the tags are certainly more expensive, though reusable.

Note: I will keep my comments to passive RFID (non-battery powered tags) and leave aside active RFID commonly used for toll roads, shipping containers, etc. RFID is actually a family of technologies, typically defined by ISO standards, and

What does, "knowledge order than dirt" mean, exactly? Are these types of errors a symptom of touch screen input, or apathy? I have noticed the occurrence has increased greatly over the last few months. I feel like a pedantic asshole, but it

I would definitely be interested in this as a consumer, as the typical Utility's payment site is painful. If you push forward on this, please include the abliity to pay my town which handles water and trash, and I think that is quite common

I'm sorry, but share price has almost no meaning without knowing the number of shares outstanding; and then, it only let's you know that the market currently values them at ~$8B. It still seems like a non sequitur, as they are still competi

My understanding with Zynga speculators is that the US may soon legalize online gambling and that Zynga is well-positioned to take advantage if that happens.

I find the naming of access points interesting; I've chosen a unique name for my AP, and wonder how common that is among the HN crowd? Most of the APs in my neighborhood are "myqwest.xxxx" and I've always thought that was a function of lazi

I submitted a story midweek about this same topic and was wondering why nobody else seemed to be concerned. I'm happy to see that is not the case because I don't think anyone in our industry is helped by protectionist maneuvers like this. P

I was just about to move my email hosting to fastmail, so this will be a significant issue for me. I hope it is confirmed or denied quickly. Any suggestions if this turns out to be true?

I wear a hat tin foil hat with a wide brim, so I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think you should take it personally (my parents will probably die never knowing what a browser is, and they simply need help). Just use Chrom

Have you considered using Squid to cache everything (even over SSL)? You will have to install certs, but I think that may be the best route (especially if your OS is *nix). I am planning on doing this at my friend's cabin this summer where

Sounds like you all have it rough in the UK. I wonder if UPS' acquisition of TNT will change any of this. For me personally, this problem is solved as I can leave packages on my door (or have them left there) all day without issue. I also h

Without diving in even as far as you have, my main problem with the proposed law is that it would remove FB's liability in complying, so the default will be to simply hand over any information related to any investigation. "Opt-in" is the o

I don't think many of us on HN want to use email as a ToDo list, but there are other people that we work for or with that tend to use email in this way. For example, my father is a fortune-500-exec-type (and an engineer), and he can't seem
