In my experience there are many reasonable incentives that shut these things down. Execs don’t want the even small maintenance burden on already stretched-thin dev teams (low ROI and bad opportunity costs), and individual devs want to work

Don't agree with your framing on the dividing line. I think the real difference is between groups that treat truth seeking as the end goal vs. those who treat truth seeking as a means to action. These two groups are in constant tension

The latter are often first in the chopping block and you’ll spend quite a bit of time trying to validate your own team’s existence. The aggressive product teams will probably have better career opportunities. Both paths are fine, it’s a tra

These all boil down to “any collection of organisms will act the same as one organism”. It will focus on survival and self interest first. It’s an emergent property from the incentives of the (potentially well-meaning) individuals Useful fo

That was one of the worst books I’ve ever read. I went into it expecting practical advice and found mostly vague hyperbolic promises of the magical benefits. If the hypothesis was that this note taking method produces lower effort, higher q

I think this is why these teams are really hard to have in a mature org. In reality maybe 5% of projects in one of these innovation orgs is actually great! But it’s impossible to evaluate and everyone else is thinking some variant of “this

I never really saw the late night credit thing as the reason people didn’t want to invest. It was mostly just things usually took a long time to fix/resolve and the payoff was uncertain. It usually took sustained downtime and actual po

I can’t agree with this any more. If you find yourself always thinking “I’ll do the laundry, let me just find a good podcast first” you are in trouble. It’s so easy just to have constant input these days
