He meant it the other way round, for you to learn from others, not that you should teach them. Confucius was a famous teacher, but the quote is about how other people were his teachers. tokenadult then says of himself, that "[I] expect to

Using adwords, bloggers put up advertisements for companies they don't run, and affiliate advertising (which is the idea starting this thread) is similar. I see what you mean though, that it would seem rude for BRK to make up their own ads

Why would it not be logical, because he owns a part of a business and not all of it?

hehe, it does look like an affiliate link now that you mention it. Logically, BRK should also link to Coke, American Express, and all the companies it holds share in/owns outright. Not only as advertising, but also to give them some googl

BTW on just the beginning of your comment: This might explain why I sometimes get "correct" replies that totally miss the point: they've seen it in the newcomments page. It's really baked my noodle a few times, that a seemingly intelligent

I've noticed that sometimes interesting answers get downvoted, and irrelevant/badly thought-out answers get upvoted. So I don't take downvotes so seriously now. However, there's a backlash: if I get a bunch of upvotes, I'll now think that

The last guy says you have to start with an intuition, and then prove it. But I think you can start with the proof, and an intuition can come to you along the way. It's just that it probably won't be about that proof.

That is what the article says. This thread raises the issue of cell phone fidelity vs. skype (or land line etc) fidelity being a factor.

I wonder if talking on any phone puts you in a disconnected and disembodied world. Conversing on a phone is quite unnatural.

Well, there is opportunity cost. Could the time and effort spent on Java be better spent elsewhere? It may be because I'm still feeling the glow Java had when I learnt it in the late 1990's, but I really like a lot of things about it. It's

I am always surprised by the power of framing. It's like a weak form of the Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis, where language shapes your thinking. nb: it's "always surprising", because that is the nature of framing and then noticing the frame...

This is the kind of project I really like; it's the way things should be. Very awesome. This should become universal. A barrier to adoption is that the installation process seems a bit scary/involved - if it was straightforward, this wou

Counter to the linked-comment: maths is not pure problem solving. There are a lot of facts to be learned in mathematics; it is more like a language, with a huge vocabulary. And, like language, very little of mathematics is actively justif

There isn't proper quoting on HN, but three popular conventions are: 1. italics - to this with asterisks ( * ). To operate, they must be adjacent to the text that is being quoted, and end up looking like this . If not adjacent, you get * t
