I like "Enterprise Rails". It's a rather contrarian Rails book in that it doesn't hew to the Rails anti-DB orthodoxy. It's clearly written and has a good example that evolves over the course of the book. It's meant to be a 2nd Rails book, a

What Quantios is trying to do is build a system that will show students good matches for colleges that fit their profile. College admissions will always be annoying but perhaps it will save students some of the time the time and frustratio

I take it you don't ride buses. They are often completely full in rush hour, including people standing. Meanwhile, most cars have only one person in it. Maybe an average of 1.5. You could have a carpool with 4 people in it, but I think that

I don't think it's fair to call Bjorn Lomborg a a climate change skeptic. He believe climate change is happening, he just doesn't think it's worth _doing_ anything about. This from a Bjorn Lomborg skeptic.

How come the people living via Surrogates aren't as fat and degenerate as the people from WALL-E? All they do is lie in their surrogate chairs all day, apparently.

Funny story...I was taking a multi-week trip to Europe while meanwhile attempting to finish my submission for Advanced Rails Recipes. No problem, I figured, I'll just use Google Docs to write it from internet cafes. I got hit by this proble

Speaking of which, do you know where I can find IE 6 so I can install it in a VM and test our site? MultipleIE doesn't work on Windows 7, which is what I'm using.

The people of California figured out how to cut their taxes and increase spending at the same time using ballot initiatives. The Legislature has extremely limited authority to close the budget gap because most of the spending is already set

On my planet Democrats believe in financing government programs responsibly, instead of borrowing money for them like California has done. If the Legislature didn't have to deal with the no-new-taxes Republican rump or the utterly ridiculou

California's minority-rule budget rules and ridiculous ballot initiative process have made crafting a reasonable budget impossible. Combine that with the slow fuse of the Prop 13 tax time bomb and you've got a disaster on your hands, and th
