Probably 2-3 times a week actually. My team is specifically the spear point of new tech and integrating it for the company to use. From a point of self-evaluation I think it would help if I tried to listen more than talk.

The pivot I have been debating is to become a Lead Development Manager with the express purpose of enabling everyone else, removing obstacles, creating better processes etc. My problem is that I love code much more than talking to people al

The thought I used to help me in times of doubt, or impostor syndrome was that I might lack the experience of even 28 year old devs that worked since graduating college, but I have more life experience to compensate. If you look around, you

I've thought about this. I actually do not think I'm the smartest person in the room, hell two of the people in my direct team are definitely smarter than me. I think I have really good systems that allow me to consistently solve

Sorry. I honestly think almost anyone can do what I do. I'm not the smartest developer by far. I think I have good systems in place that allow me to write code well. In terms of moving to a different domain I did about 4 years ago. It

As in teaching college courses or other developers? Currently I train new developers with all the tools we are using, and our CI/CD process. I mentor one new hire in six month cycles, and yesterday I got an intern mentee. I also write

I 100% agree. It's about creating your own oasis. There will be friction from everyone around you, the only way to overcome it is by producing results and being very clear about your intentions. Also don't be surprised if your man

As a person that works in DevOps (but doesn't write YAML files all day), the problem is using the wrong solution for the scope. I think DevOps groups a lot of times end up doing the work that the groups they support should have done fo

This is happening everywhere. The current industry cycle is one of scope expansion, moving away from the do one thing well paradigm. This will lead to bloated software that do a little bit of everything but not very well, which will trigger

How do you resist the urge to describe all possible exceptions? In my writing, I describe something, then find myself spending four times as many paragraphs explaining all the exceptions. Fake example: A bicycle has two wheels of equal size

The pandemic was brutal for parents. All four of my kids where doing remote learning. My significant other stays at home so she took care of that end of things. If I was a single parent it would have been impossible to maintain without outs

I agree with the other two responses. Dealing with your own kids you start to understand humanity better. You understand your parents more, one of the funny things that happens, is you catch yourself responding to things the same way your p

This is very true. Stressors allow you to grow. One of the weird things is seeing friends that never had kids be exactly the same 10-20 years later, doing the same things, talking about the same stuff. It always shows me how much I have gro

All self-help books can be condensed to a few pages. 5 pages is probably on the high end. I am an avid notetaker and most books I have read, I can summarize in less than a page, sometimes half a page. I do try to condense though, so 3 pages
