Also, not all of the admin overhead would disappear if we got rid of means testing. I don't have the expertise to come up with a specific number, but I'd wager that getting half the admin costs back would be the absolute best case

Oh, yeah... that's definitely not what I had in mind lol. I don't own any gold, but I do have a single silver 1oz coin and imagining that in bar form only brings to mind Zoolander jokes.

I have literally never met a developer who does this (including myself). 99% of all PRs I have ever created or reviewed consist of a single commit that "does the thing" and N commits that fix issues with/debug failure modes o

The really weird thing to me is that the check marks don't persist across categories. I.e. I marked the story about Youtube as "read" in the "World" tab, but it doesn't get a check in the "USA" tab. S

I believe the 100k are those that took the "deferred resignation program" at the beginning of the year. They have been getting paid to not bother showing up to work all this time, but are finally coming up on the date where they w

Wait, you go through security without interacting with anyone? How does that work? Other than that though, this really sounds pretty much the same as my experience in US airports in the last decade.

Yep. I don't fly a ton, but I had a flight canceled by Alaska a couple of years ago. They refunded me so I wasn't actually out anything, but they also gave me a $100 credit in addition to the refund. I really tried, but since I do

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. How on Earth could anyone consider the example in #2 "conflict-free"? You haven't removed the conflict, you're just ignored it! Anything can be conflict free in that case. Obvious

This is the same Wells Fargo that silently truncated everyone's online banking passwords? Edit: My bad, I misremembered. It wasn't that they truncated them, it was that they were case insensitive. Which is... objectively worse.

You don't, but large organizations can have a lot of entry points (or none... but that's a different topic), so you let the caller pick the inbound number that will actually reach them or their department, but then you still indep

Awesome. Thanks for taking the time. Glad to understand all of this better. I feel a bit silly now meticulously going through and changing all of my "0.9.3"s to "0.9" in the past, but at least now I know better.

So there's no difference at all between "0", "0.9" and "0.9.3" in cargo.toml (Since semver says only major version numbers are breaking)? As a decently experienced Rust developer, that's deeply surpri

The missing regulation is some kind of tax or other disincentive against e-waste. I believe the premise of the GP is that such things can only be profitable if we chose to ignore their environmental impact.
