I know it's totally unrealistic, but I really wish it was economically viable to run an airline that was 100% first class and had great customer service and a strict "no babies or assholes" rule. I can't afford to charte

The statement as originally written implies that all people who are vaccinated can still transmit the disease. That may be true, but it's unlikely and we don't have enough data to say one way or the other yet.

I think this is a unique problem for a subset of front-end developers. In the rest of the software engineering world, "old" software seems to work just fine if you're not easily distracted by shiny baubles, and in some sector

NASA uses "planetary defense" to refer to activities related to detection of dangerous asteroids. The DSN is used for communication with our various satellites and probes outside of Earth orbit. AFAIK, it doesn't play a role

Sure, so what? Anyone smart and dedicated enough to complete a Phd is smart enough to realize this going in. Surely the vast majority of people getting Phds don't expect to ever become academics and have some other plan.

Re-use of a battery is fine, but it's a stop-gap. The battery will eventually reach a state of health where it isn't useful in any application anymore, so recycling is still necessary. The "re-use" step just delays that

Reddit used to set that expectation too. I think HN's restriction of the downvote button to relatively high-karma users has a much bigger impact than (or at least in combination with) the cultural expectation.

TFM is often extremely vague in my experience. I always start my journey into the git haunted forest with RTFM, but I almost always end up on Stack Overflow looking for confirmation that commands actually do what I think they do.

I think I've used `reflog` maybe... twice in a decade of daily git use. It's crazy to me that anyone would think that it's a daily use command. I don't even know what bisect is off the top of my head.

Of course we have reason to do so (to test whether we can do it) and projects like Biosphere 2 suggest that while it's not impossible, it is for the time being unsolved.

And what's the alternative? We rewrite the whole stack in Java/C++/C# this year, and in 20 years we rewrite the whole thing again in Rust? That really doesn't seem like an improvement to me.
