Pretty sure the idea predates that lecture, it appears in Charles Stross' novel Accelerando from 2005 (which is based on short stories that were published years earlier).

This is the first time humans go beyond LEO in my lifetime, so personally I'm pretty excited.

You can do all that with Vulkan and RenderDoc.

Maybe people mean GenAI. Back then, AI meant stuff like computer algebra systems like Macsyma which produce deterministic, provably correct results. I'm totally OK with that kind of AI. What I don't like are probabilistic text gen

Many language learning books used to come with audio media. I'm old enough to own a few that came with cassette tapes. Books are still worthwhile IMO, if only because they provide a bit of structure to one's learning. With free re

Also, x86 has an instruction that multiplies two 32-bit registers and stores the 64-bit result in two 32-bit registers. So you get the result of the division in the register with the high part of the multiplication result, and don't ne

I feel the same way. I can't think of a single legitimate use case for this. I wish all those GPU teraflops were being used for something else.

This is cool, but they should have just used Vulkan. Dawn is a massive dependency (and a PITA to build, in my experience) to get what's basically a wrapper around Vulkan. Vulkan has a reputation for being difficult to work with, but if

I wrote an application to get GPS data for a sport activity from my cheap smartwatch and dump it to a GPX route file. The application uses the Qt Bluetooth libraries. I use it every day after my runs, then I upload the GPX files to Strava.

I'd love to fly on Virgin Galactic's space plane, but I think its maximum speed is around Mach 3. To get into orbit you need to reach a speed of at least 27,000 km/h (Mach 22). Huge difference!

Wow, how crazy is this? This guy: * Designed a 32-bit ISA with vector instructions [0] * Implemented it on an FPGA * Wrote a gcc backend for his ISA [1] * Ported Quake, and it seems to run pretty well (Quake required a high-end Pentium back
