It seems like they're experimenting with it, but claim it's just for exploring stuff and is not the "future" yet. I've read on HN that it's much slower than Linux thanks to it's micro-kernel design. That s

They're still important and it builds good will which helps them gain more loyalty from the viewers. E.g. Facebook spies on you while Twitch supports the creators I like.

I think his biggest mis-read here was decentralization. If anything everything is becoming increasingly centralized to the point that we NEED to decentralize to keep things stable, but not to the level he is saying. I just think the worst c

I love my Gesture, just not the price. I bought the cheaper option so I could have a "nice chair" at home too without paying the same price, but it really isn't that great. I found better chairs at Office Depot (when I got de

Something rarely mentioned with SSH, but which there have been a few recent articles on HN about, are SSH certificates and the fact that you can use the PIV of a yubikey to do certificate management. e.g. You can create a certificate which

Borg or Restic are good for off site backup, but if you want basically an untrusted storage server Reslio does support "encrypted" folders. The UX is a little hard to figure out sometimes though, it's not open source, and is

Video editing was at the bottom of the article after many other problems he encountered. I do not use Linux as my desktop anymore, but I have, and every time I try I run in to all kinds of issues like this.

I got one for home since I didn't want to buy another Gesture from Steelcase, but with Covid I went to the office and took it home. The back of the chair is weird to me.

Tailscale or Zerotier are good ways around that. Or setting up a really cheap server (e.g. I like RamNode) as a central VPN point.

I wish thats how a lot of things work, but I imagine it would end up encouraging some to create "proprietary" ones (only ours that has special certificate) to work. Then charge like crazy the same way dealers do with car keys.

It might, but part of why it happens is that the app makes it easy for that to happen and users are trained. Think how "redditors" talk vs how we do here in HN. We have clear rules about what this forum is about. Commenting "

I completely agree, but websites are even worse. At least the ads are super clearly marked and they're entirely unlikely to "trick" you or infect your phone with malware.

Focusing efforts on smaller+faster deploys (along with some measure of deploy quality to weigh those deploys) seems like a far better indicator of a team's velocity than simply tickets closed.

For Deno the only issue is the first time when you do not have it cached. Deno compiles in all dependencies when building so the only point of failure is the machine you’re building on. I don’t know the state of the art anymore, but I’m sur
