Suggestion to author. When you write an article on the decline of usability, you might want to consider centering the text.

Depends on your point of reference. If you buy into the ecology you could build a sane career where experience actually meant something instead of being level set every two years by the new shiny tech stack that's going to save the ind

I could only wish the distinction was explicit. It's been my experience that they don't call it that but instead expect the application developers to handle everything which leads to a big ball of configuration management mud.

I like your take on the situation and I like the idea of DevOps being a more formalized version of system administration using infrastructure as code. Unfortunately, what I think it is in most places is middle management playing games with

Do you think wrapping that all up in a docker container is a bridge too far? I've seen this video before and have thought about installing on this old box I use as a file server but have never got around to it.

I thought that too until I moved to Arizona and I can say I hate the fixed time because work hours typically don't adjust with the sun. Summer is worse for me than winter because I have a tougher time getting a good nights sleep due to

Yeah, my idea was something with the interface of a launcher but where the results are display as a tree list. The result of a very large set of commands would either be a tree list or the rendering of some other GUI element in which case t

Also the Raskins', Jef and his son Aza, were onto this a long time ago. The general idea is applications, desktop or web, are the problem and that a better interface is one that provides a ubiquitous means of issuing commands with natu

Yeah, I'd say GUI development is one of the places OOP really shines. I think a lot of the OOP was a mistake opinions come from its ubiquitous use in the enterprise, even in domains for which it was not well suited.

Yeah I’m with most of what you’re saying. The car example was particularly painful. A car is put together on an assembly line comprised of parts that have have no knowledge at all of the other parts of the system. And the manufacturer of an

I agree with most everything said in the article but with a big condition. If I as an engineer am responsible for everything the author says I should be responsible for then I want total control of the tech stack and runtime environment.
